40d + 430 Ex Overexposure?

Hey all. Shot this recently indoors at a private event.

10 end of the 10-22mm with a 430EX on a 40D.

Something happened along the way? Major over compensation of flash?
Any ideas? Shot this in P mode.

Please share your settings... any FEC? your Aperture, shutter and ISO used??

As follows:

1/10s, f/5.6 ISO 200 , shot in ambient light and flash setting set to AUTO (0EV)

Most shots managed just alright, save for this and a couple others here and there.
Does the camera tend to misgauge the correct amount of flash to compensate hence blows this picture as such? TIA.
