Get a 35mm f2.8 prime lens. It is really fast, sharp and compact. For casual shooting, remove the batt grip if you have one attached to your d300. It will lighten the load.

I bought 4 Kingston 8GB Elite pro cards for my Europe trip because it was cheap and regretted it after the first use. The problem was missing frames! I would get 5 to 10 corrupt shots for every 100+ frames. As you can imagine, this can be disastrous for wide pano shot which need to be stitched...

Great TTL flash to replace the built-in flash. Tiny, lightweight and very portable. Good enough for regular shots but not sophisticated enough for fine tweaking.
