    Calling all newbies..

Actually once this thread gets long, I'm sure not many will read the tips anymore.. But I'm hoping it helps cos when I first started out, I was confused til I used a few "Rules of Thumb" that I found in books and mags. I'm still learning.. I know everyone at CS just wants to be helpful, but I've...

    Calling all newbies..

Yes. I agree... But the wealth of info there confuses some. There has to be a reason why people still ask in forums. Can't be thatt all of them are ignorant and just ask on forum. I always wanted something like this.. compiled tips just make it easier to remember and rules of thumbs are always...

    Recommendations for camera backpack

I went to HK with an Agio Ty Video. It's actually meant for video eqpt. but it has enough space for a normal Lowepro cam bag, my clothes, laptop and my Crumpler Jimmy Bo 400... Lol!!!

    Calling all newbies..

Hi guys.. As a newbie myself, I find that it's a little hard to search the forum. Especially when you're not too sure what you're talking about yourself. (I'm guilty of that.. :( ) As such.. I was thinking of creating a thread where people contribute little tips that they have picked up along...

    Streets and Candids

i normally shoot with my primes.. Usually i use a 50.. but there are times when i just wanna focus on people.. then i use my 85... If i don't have a clear idea of what to shoot, just walk with my 17-50. I stick to below 100 mm cos I wanna be closer to the action and have the picture taken in a...

    Which shld i get?? Sigma 17-50 f2.8 OS , Tamron17-50 f2.8 VC or Nikon 35 f1.8

I'm using Tamron 17-50 f/2.8. Reasonably fast and nicely sharp. VR costs 300+ more. But I hear more ppl saying without VR, image quality is better. I haven't seen ur album cos my internet access is restricted. Closest focusing distance of ard 30 cm. Not good for macro. but a really good lens...

Totally newbie! Come and share if you won't vomit blood :D

Yup. I agree.. My first time buying mags, I bought 3 mags at the same time. Then I realized it's usually repeated. Buy mags that feature the techniques you want.. e.g. B/W or Macro etc... Good point redstone.

Recomendation of shops to buy DSLR

I guess a better camera = less time behind com doing PP.. get better shots in cam. Unless you have presets in aperture that really optimise your workflow. But that's another skill altogether.

    Starting to pick up photography.

I only use it as a rule of thumb. Not hard and fast. I use 1/60 for 50 mm. Although it's equivalent to 75mm on a 1.5x crop. I don't use 1/80. Maybe it's a personal thing. But I do admit that 1/60 won't get me a really steady shot. but it's the lowest I can go. Although with luck, I've managed...
