I find the 50mm very sharp when stopped down to F2.8, have anyone tried to mount close up filters on it? I am aware it will not produce true macro photos (1:1), or as sharp a dedicated macro lens. So what you guys think? Any brands to recommend?

You might want to try Lowepro Stealth Reporter D300AW/D400AW, I'm using one and it holds my gear comfortably with room to spare. As for belt system, if you shoot events regularly, it would be faster to change lenses etc.

It's called a Filter. You can try the Marumi , hoya, and kenko. These are not bad. I don't use a lens hood, as I find it troublesome to mount and reverse mount, and I normally don't replace the lens cap till the end of the day. Most of my friends are like that, so a filter is essential...
