Hi eggie, sounds like you encountered a strange problem.
By chance is your 1.4X tele-converter a non-Canon one? I don't think the 100mmL lens (f2.8L macro lens?) can be used with the Canon 1.4X extender. If the teleconverter is indeed non-Canon, then chances are that is is simply not quite...
For those interested, Canon Singapore has now put out a 1-sheet marketing flyer for the 1D Mark III. It is available at their Harbourfront showroom, not sure about their other locations.

Thanks.

Did you stack filters ie. polarizing on top of the UV/sky filter?
One possible reason why you don't see it all the time, is that the vignetting occurs only at the wider angles: 17mm+ and not throughout the...
You can re-program the * (AE lock) to be an AF button using CF-4.
This fature is in the 5D, and was already in the 20d etc. before that.
Or were you looking at having a fully dedicated/seperate AF button?
For the f2.8 picture, the nearer objects at the botttom-left corner (sofa, umbrella) appear to be sharper. Did you check the focusing?
At f2.8, dof can be quite narrow, even for 16mm.
Yes, based on my experience using the MjuII, that is how it works.
One issue thought is that the 'spot meter' function gets reset whenever you swicth off the camera (slide cover closed). Which means that you have to press those two buttons again to reactivate spot.
Hope that helps.
