If i remember correctly, the one on the camera does light up when lighting is poor. That's why I find it so strange.

Do you mean off the AF focus on the 430EX or the camera?

Hi, I am using my S5IS with 430EX speedlite. I noticed that the AF-assist beam doesn't light up on the speedlite during focusing both in low light and normal condition. Is this normal?

I was a G3 user. Was considering upgrading to G7 but ended up buying the S5IS because it comes with var LCD, good optical zoom, reasonable F-stop and megapixel, has hotshoe. But the drawback is that it doesn't have raw as compared to my G3 :(
