Little Red Riding Hood - Somehow I kept feeling that she's not little and she's more scary than the big bad wolf. (Maybe that's why it was nowhere in sight.)

Night Walk (with my G1X Mk II)

I went for a night walk from Parliament House, along the Singapore River, to Fullerton Hotel and across the road to the newly opened Jubilee Bridge spanning Merlion Park and Esplanade Theatres by the Bay, and back to Parliament House. Altogether, I took 40 photos in RAW format, all handheld, as I strolled; here are three of them. Minimum editing was done to the RAW files using Canon's DPP editing software. I looked like a typical tourist with the camera strap slung around my neck.

Jubilee Bridge (Spanning Merlion Park & Esplanade)

My last night walk took me from Parliament House to Jubilee Bridge but I didn't walk along the bridge. So I went back this evening for another walk. And I saw many photographers taking pictures. The Jubilee Bridge was opened recently. It was named the Jubilee Bridge to celebrate Singapore's 50th anniversary since independence. The bridge was the late Mr. Lee Kuan Yew's idea to build it. When he passed away in March, the bridge was opened earlier than planned. At midway, there is a connection between Jubilee Bridge and Esplanade Bridge (see #36c).

Photos were taken with my Canon EOS 70D and the EF-S 10-18mm IS STM lens. (There are two more photos in this series on my Flickr site.)

Canon g1Xii handheld night shots looks extremely useable!

Yes, LP. It is a very nice camera to use both in the day and at night. I enjoy using the EVF and find myself using it more often to frame the shots than using the LCD screen. I use this camera for candid shots frequently during my weekend walkabouts here and there.

Let Go for Lego

In many facets of ordinary life, we sometimes choose to let go of the real thing to focus on its image because seemingly it is more attractive than what is real, even though what is real is just next to it. We let go for lego. We forget that the things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

Bird at Mount Faber

I went for a walk at Mount Faber near the Cable Car Station and the top of Marang Trail. If you are not familiar with the Marang Trail, it is a walking trail with increasing steepness towards the top and ending with many flights of steps. It is only a 20 to 30 minute walk, starting near a car park opposite Vivocity. Quite often, you may see a squirrel or two leaping from branch to branch or going up or down a tree. At the top, the roadway that came up from Kampong Bahru road has steep slopes on both sides. Birds often fly laterally across to the trees on the other side. Here are two birds I saw. It is not easy to spot a Kingfisher - it is small, active and flies fairly fast.

Nursery Rhymes

School Holidays are here again; the children should be very happy! Nursery Rhymes are in the Flower Dome of Gardens by the Bay. Here are three of many I took this afternoon.

I saw a Mr. Photographer Senior with his 5D Mk II and 70-200 L on Monopod busily enjoying his photography. Is this gentleman in Clubsnap, I wonder?

Birds are Fascinating & Interesting

I'm not a bird photographer nor have I taken up the hobby seriously; thus, I do not have the correct equipment to take bird photos like many Birders in Clubsnap do.

- - - - -

In the first photo below, I went for a morning walk and saw many bird photographers with their large lenses at one place. With my modest equipment, I took several shots. Rest assured, the chicks have fully-fledged and left their nest; thus, it's safe for me to post.

After a 7-month break, I returned to one of my favourite parks - Jurong Bird Park. By the way, there is an SG50 promo. Singaporeans, permanent residents and employment pass holders can buy an entrance ticket at a discounted $28, which also entitles him or her to a one-year membership with unlimited entrance.

The 2nd photo (below) was taken inside the World of Darkness. The place has been renovated and it now has six different species of Owls: Eurasian Eagle Owl; Spotted Wood Owl; Boobook Owl; Malay or Buffy Fish Owl; Common Barn Owl and Snowy Owl. The Eurasian eagle owls are in a very, very dark place. It is a challenge trying to spot them, let alone photographing them. I managed to capture a shot without seeing it properly; it turned out quite well - relatively speaking.

And I'm back watching the two main bird shows and practising my BIF (Bird in Flight) photo-taking with modest results (only).

Changing Colours of Garden Rhapsody

Actually, I did not plan to be at the light show tonight. The nightly light show comes on at 1945h and 2045h for about 10-15 minutes. I was wandering around Gardens by the Bay looking out for birds up in the trees and at the pond near Satay by the Bay to photograph. (It rained quite heavily this afternoon so I didn't go to an open park or wetland.) After a light meal at Satay BTB, I wandered to the peripheral paths of Supertree Grove looking for some less usual spots where fewer visitors walk to to take a few night shots. When I finally got to the Supertree Grove to rest a while, it was almost 2045h; so, I might as well take some Garden Rhapsody photos too. Here are four to show the different colours during the show. These were taken with my Canon G1X Mark II.

Seagull

Years ago, I bought an album (LP) entitled Jonathan Livingston Seagull because it was a soundtrack which featured Neil Diamond, one of the artists I listened to, and still do from time to time. Subsequently, I went to watch the movie of the same title. I had mixed feelings about the movie because it was both strange and unique. Practically, there were no human beings in the movie but seagulls and serene sceneries only. I was too young and immature then to comprehend what the movie was all about. Some in the audience fell asleep; others left early, but I stayed to the end. In particular, there were three songs sung by Neil Diamond that I like. The other tracks were instrumental music.

The photo below is one of many I took in the Netherlands more recently. And when I compare it with a similar one I took in the west coast of the US, both seagulls look so similar although they were thousands of miles or kilometres apart. Once again, that strange and unique feeling about these birds returned.

it's strange how memories and picture can strike a cord, but they do :)
