UWA for A7(R) ?

Anyone using the SEL1018 here and does pano with it? I cannot seem to stitch my images, no matter what.

Any sample frames we can look at? Could it be short of overlaps?

yeah I agree even UWA or the Samyang FE as long you have enough overlay or overlaps you could stitch to create pano.. could be as you said bro not enough overlaps

I did, confirm it's possible. I think matching the edges for pano is more difficult for UWA, due to the nature of the lens itself (wide + barrel distortion).
Usually you can spot the problem visually ... e.g. look at your left frame and right frame and compare the overlapping area ... are the objects in there really match?
For example, the one on the left could be bigger than the one on the right ... which makes it difficult to stitch.

I can upload some sample pictures tomorrow evening. Usually I shoot with 30 deg to 40 deg rotation. So it should overlap sufficiently. But the foreground is headache.

Thanks in advance for your help and advice

rokinon 14 2.8 going for US$329 on amazon if anyone is interested.

seems to be an updated design/look matching that of the T3.1 Cine lens

Usually how much overlap do you cater? I assume you are shooting in FF mode? Any special lens correction you use?

About 1/4 overlap I think. No I haven't try pano for SEL1018 in FF, only in APS-C with NEX, no lens correction.

30 - 40 degrees should be enough. Are u using a pano head? Since you mentioned that the foreground is a headache, I assume you're hand holding or using a normal ballhead. For panos with only distance features, that shouldn't pose much of a problem. However, if you have close subjects in the scene, the lens needs to be rotated about the optical centre ("nodal point") in order for the frames to stitch propoerly.

I guess the problem comes in when the lens is used in FF mode

Yup. I'm shooting with a pano head. The foreground would still have a few points which refuses to stitch properly.

you could still but your pano will be narrow (top and bottom)

Foreground being a headache sounds like it could be a case of the nodal point not being adjusted for properly.

one way to help when using UWA lenses is to shoot straight horizon to avoid having issue with your top and bottom stitching last time I used the Samyang 8mm FE on A55/A77 and I still manages to came up a decent pano using around 3-4 shoots the over lap is big though around 40% to 50%. Also would help if your lens is rectilinear :)

?? Don't quite get what you mean by narrow pano

I did check and recheck my nodal point. Think I'll do it again tonight.

This was what I shot previously using my A77. The lines on the walkway was stitched properly.

Was shooting cityscape (cbd), so the horizon may not be 100% horizontal.

The 1018 is a rectilinear lens right? Didn't have such major issues previously when I used the tokina 1116 with a77. :(

10-20 is actually design for crop sensor so you will have strong distortion at the edges sides specially if you shooting at 10mm. You using A7/r?

I'm not familiar with 10-20 but if you shoot straight dead horizon you should be able to have a straight horizon that will help when stitching at least you have something easy to align when stitching but if you shooting slightly tilted up or down you may be able to stitch but don't expect tall pano you may ended up narrow pano and you may need more shots to stitch and the overlap needs to be big.
