Fujifilm X100S

i been to tokyo and look at yodobashi and bic camera's price for cameras. its ard the same as in SG. i like to shop there only because they sell certains things which not commonly found in SG as off the shelf item.

if you want cheaper price, HK is still the place to go.

Japan is cheaper but if you want it cheap you don't buy in retail outlets, you buy online. Retail outlets are only for rich tourists from China. :)

Just played with the X100S for a fair bit of time. Awesome camera, especially the split focus MF assist! I really liked the EVF in this one as well. The only things I don't like are the minimum focus distance in non-macro mode (I know it's better now but still not as good as similar primes), the horribly cheap and loose AF/AF-C/MF switch and the shutter button which needs too much pressure to press it halfway through. Anyway, I would still buy it if I were in the market for an APS-C compact camera. I hope Fujifilm updates their X-mount bodies soon with the new features!

out of curiosity, which online store? if it's amazon, there isn't a difference with the retail outlets like Bic/Yodo (after 10% tax+designated CC discount).

Depends on the product, there are dozens of good online stores. Just use a Japanese price search engine.
If I buy at Yodobashi online or in Akihabara I never claim back the sales tax, I rather collect my Yodobashi points.
Don't underestimate negotiation, you can get huge discounts in store. I bought and ordered a few times from Nojima (www.nojima.co.jp) and other stores in Shizuoka-shi more recently and you shouldn't really take the price tags seriously at all.

Btw Japan has a sales tax of 5%, not 10.

I see, I'll try to negotiate more with them. Yes I know sales tax of 5%, I did indicate 10% is sales tax + designated CC discount. Bic prefers Visa while Yodo prefers UnionPay which is 5%, that's why total of 10%.

Tried out the X100s at the IT Show yesterday. Have to say I am quite impressed with the AF. Definitely much faster and confident than the AF of the X100 on latest firmware and faster than the RX1 too.

The EVF is noticeably sharper and less lag too. Just took a few test pics but it looks cleaner than the X100 at ISO 3200 to me. Very tempted to get one but bobian already got the RX1 liao. Feel its a worthwhile upgrade to the X100.

No need for a X100S if you got the RX1, the X100S' lens isn't that fantastic.

If you think the x100s is good enough, sell yr rx1. $2k+ difference you know.

Yes. Tested it. Disappointing against d XF35 on d X-E1. Makes me wonder d new n coming XF23mm lens performance.

I think the upcoming XF23mm has to be a slightly different design coz of the different registration distance to incorporate the mount. I expect it to be longer, it can't reach that deep into the camera.

in terms of response, the menu speed and startup time is greatly improved over x100.

i have done comparison between the x100s and x-pro1 and seems x100s handled noise slighty better than x-pro1. need more test to conclude..

Wondering how much different between IT show price and regular shops. Seems that this time price not so bad considering the freebies and able to pay by cc if the estimated price of regular shops (around $1600) is true.

I was quoted 1585 cash price by a funan shop.

No freebies price? :p

X100S owners wanna share your image setting? for me as currently is:

Color = +2
Sharpness = +2
Highlight tone = -1
Shadow tone = -1
Noise reduction = -1

tried ISO12800 with NR -1 and result is still pleasing. impression is like ISO3200 of my 5Dmk2. need to take some pics to compare side by side...

edit: i withdraw the words in bold for now. guess i havent been using my 5dmk2 for a long long time. LOL

I've heard about using NR -1 to prevent 'smudging' tendencies from in-camera noise reduction.

ISO 12800 is as good as ISO 3200 on 5Dmk2 is a bit of a stretch I think, but tech is constantly moving on... pics please!
