Would all IDX users, please fall in here to discuss, show and share your thoughts, usage etc.

I just came back from a trip to japan, and used the 1DXes to shoot some snow monkeys..

http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/world-nature/1216244-japanese-snow-monkeys.html

1DX is so far so good, i love the viewfinder which is much bigger than my previous 1D4, focusing speed though is still much dependent on the lenses itself. The percentage of shots in focus when capturing moving objects is so far so good, same like what i felt with the 1D4.

Finally a thread dedicated to 1DX users! It's bulky and weighs a ton, but I still love mine!

I use it quite a bit for landscape shooting and low light conditions, besides the usual fast action stuff..

Faithwell, thanks for starting this thread :)

I'm more for portrait photography ( 80% portrait, 20% sport and event) upgrade from 1D2 to 1DX and 5D2 to 5D3. Weights is not a issue for me since 1D2 is heavier, love the fast n accurate focusing of 1DX and of course the high FPS.

Canon EOS-1D X Firmware 1.2.1

Release of New Firmware Version 1.2.1, firmware incorporating disablement (operational error prevention) of the Image Size selection button
We are releasing firmware version 1.2.1 for EOS -1D X for service prior to the Web announcement. We are planning to make this firmware available on the Web for download in mid-January 2013. This firmware update is to improve operational function in response from several professional photographers that the Image Selection button was pressed without realizing and the image size had been changed. Also, this firmware incorporates quality issue fixes that have been reported from the market.

1. Details of Functional Improvements and Fixes
1-1. The function to disable the Image Size selection button is added.
1-2. Fixes Err 70 and Err 80 which may occur depending on the camera settings, shooting scenes, or the timing of releases. Also, some complained camera freeze when Err 80 occurred.

The above mentioned (1-2) phenomenon occur in very rare instances. In addition with the firmware update for 1-1, the fixes for these phenomena have been incorporated.

a) Err 70

In customization of operational buttons, there were errors in operational program for the exposure level display in the viewfinder when the Main Dial is set to change the aperture value in Manual mode, and may cause Err 70.

b) Err 80

Err 80 may occur depending on the distance to the subject, shooting scenes, or the timing of metering. This phenomenon occurs in very rare instances due to the error in operational program for metering when shooting a subject at a distance with telephoto lenses with focal lengths of 300 mm or 400 mm.

Thanks for the update on the firmware! Didn't realise there image size selection button can be an issue.

I skipped the 1DsIII and was using the 1DsII before. The layout of the buttons and some functions still takes some getting used to.

Cheers,

What is the recommended screen protector for the 1DX? I will be collecting my 1DX sometime next week just in time for CNY:)

There's no need to out screen protectors.. 1DX is made of the best glass u can think of

Wow, we have six users now!

My interest is landscape and night shooting. Loves to bring along the new IDX with either 24-105mm f4L IS USM or most probably the new 24-70mm f2.8 II USM for touring photo shoots. Next trip to Southern Italy in April. Looking forward to test these two new items overseas.

Just place over a screen protector from Cathy Photo (forgotten the name) just in case of scratches if any in rough usage.

May also want to share your gears if possible.

Wah gear sharing thread lol

Faithwell, where did you get your GP-E1 from? I got mine overseas as canon Singapore didn't distribute it here.

You will love your 1DX on overseas trips. Shot with it on a rainy day in Paris and had no problems whatsoever.

Got it from B+H Photo via online. Mark IV has been tested in rough weather and pretty tough though. So, would have much faith in IDX as you had gone through baptism of water too. Cheers!

Have anyone tried using the combination of IDX plus 24-70mm f2.8 II USM yet? I am used to Mark IV & 24-105mm f4L IS USM and with IS, handholding is pretty stable during the day shot and even inside building without flash. Do not intend to use tripod during the day while travelling overseas. May want to share your experience if any?

I used that combo in Europe. No issues whatsoever in low light conditions, even without IS. In fact it's my no 1 lens on the 1DX now.

Impressive set of gear! The Tamron 18-270 seems out of place however. How are you utilizing this lens in a full frame setup?

screen protectors is dirt cheap insurance...even if its gorilla glass, grits of silica sand will scratch it.

The 1dx + 24.70LII is a phenomenal combo, put into auto iso and let it rip..at this point, i feel comfortable to let the d3s it replace go. In this 4+ months of owning it, its been to HK, all over China, Germany, Netherlands, France...US...i shoot inside cathedrals, temples, restuarants..all held. but these days after getting the oly om-d...its sadly kooning in the dry box ;p
