Kodak preparing to file for bankruptcy

I still have a few rolls of E100VS I think. Admittedly, I have only been consuming Fuji slide films of late so it's no real loss I suppose.

sad news, thinking of buy some E100VS from US, is that safe from X-ray scanning during shipping?

Stocking up time. Just ordered over USD800 over worth of film. In 6 months WW stock will be depleted.
China MF/LF groups already started mass ordering (one guy order 1000 rolls of 120 ! )

Very disappointed with the Americans. In the past ten over years working with North American companies, I can only say that the technical people are brilliant and hard workers. The management are all politicians. A team of 25 people can have 24 managers shouting at one engineer giving orders.
Ridiculously high salaries only created a bunch of arrogant idiots. (Seagate is one of them). Their downfall is just so clear.

Was placing high hopes on Kodak to make a come back, but looks like the decline is slowly AND SURELY.

USA is on its way down into the flushed toilet bowl....

Kodak E100VS about USD $35 from Adorama. Other places are going to jack up the prices soon. Act now.

It is like holding the pack of film and walk under the bright sun for a while.

No Choice lah.

I just submitted my E100G and E100VS MO for moderator's approval, do show support once it shows up in the MO subforum!

Just went to Ruby, E100VS 120 format all reserved. Next batch price may increase! I wonder if it is kodak or the distributor in SG brought up the price once more.

Lets do a MO of Kodak E100VS 120.

For 4X5, its now becoming like a commodity entering buy and sell mode.

Kodak E100G 4X5 still available on Ebay. Mostly snapped up.
The alternative is Kodak Dup Slide 4X5, I bought all there is one pack left.

Waiting for my last batch of E100VS to fly in.

Went to Ebay to the sensible offers. Those upper management in Kodak are killing Kodak for their pay cheque.

Ces la Vie.

"Film (still and cinema) remains a profitable business for Kodak, and we have the broadest and most respected portfolio of films in both segments," Audrey Jonckheer, Kodak's worldwide director of marketing and public relations, tells BJP."We have taken steps to sustain the business as it has declined, and we know that there are hundreds of passionate fans of film for the artistic and quality reasons they cite."

yay good news!

Not very reassuring to be honest. Kodak's management figures there are only a few hundred oldskoolers left shooting film???

The frakking idiots are pulling a fast one on us.

Kodak film prices to rise by 15%

Kodak film prices to rise by 15%

Good thing i picked up a half-frame camera today. But that won't help if in two years' time (if they survive) kodak announces that "while we are aware that dozens of loyal enthusiasts are using our film products worldwide, regrettably ..."

An podcast featuring the opinion of a former Kodak engineer, covering some of the mistakes Kodak made, and also provided some insights into the film production process:

Inside Analog Photo - Ron Mowery - 9

One of the interesting data is that E6 only made up around 1% of Kodak's film business, and that explained the decision to terminate the entire slide product line.

Just listened to the podcast. The most profitable is still motion picture for them. However after speaking to a student producer in NTU, he told me film is still too expensive to shoot. He does not even print his film, he only telecine them. He added that for connoisseurs it is ok to shoot film, for work, go digital.

Interesting insight on difference in culture of management.
Here was a little write up in 2000 re: kodak vs fuji, http://www.pace.edu/emplibrary/tfinnerty.pdf

“As a company Fuji has been so obsessed with building its brand, improving product quality,
and investing in research and development and marketing that it has neglected areas like
profitability,” says Sugaya Aiko. “Payouts have been far lower than Kodak because they
focused too much on long-term goals,” says Sugaya

In the face of digital movement, Fujifilm was quick to embrace it in its infancy, saw its possibilities and diversified into a strong arm ( though they had a very brief early stint in FF DSLRs, probably gunned down by C and N )

Kodak while being the early inventors of digital sensor did not seem to push hard into digital when the trend was at immaturity, and the lukewarm start led them to be late in the game.
