Nikon announced new mirrorless cameras - J1 and V1

mm...doesn't it bother anyone it has no built-in flash and the external flash accessory is humoungous which defeats the purpose of having a small body?
The Sony NEX has a larger sensor and a very nice small external flash design. Also, no sensor-shift for anti-vibration ? They boosted some specs but really skimped on the rest...Too bad as the camera looks quite nice actually.

i do remember seeing a built in flash, at least on the J1

Guys, check out the official sample images from Nikon Japan:

I would say the image quality is very decent.

But one thing I don't understand... Why must use Ang MOH models har? Asia is where the gold is, no? Local property ads also like that... As if no Ang MOH means low class...

I'd say that from the IQ of the pictures posted by Nikon, these 2.7 crop Nikons are going to give M43 a run for their money. Remember that most M43 being released today e.g., GF3 are still using a sensor from years ago. Nikon should have an advantage over Sony in producing high quality lenses.

How so? Mind explaining? Sony has Carl Zeiss and Minolta so I don't really think that there would be much difference.

So far, I don't think anyone has been impressed with the E-mount lenses from Sony so whoever Sony acquired, it hasn't rubbed off on the NEX lenses.

How would you know that these '1 mount' lenses would be as good as the SLR lenses then?

It's an opinion based on Nikon's reputation for not producing rubbish lenses. The initial images posted seem to bear that out.

Imaging Resource have the test images from J1.

A bit dissapointment. Small sensor and no attractive feature. It's just like what Nikon was during beginning of prosumer camera and DSLR races- don't study the market / what market want properly and only make amendment afterwards. Nikon is too conservative in digital era. Don't know how long their reserve can last. :(

I don't think all of Nikon's SLR lenses are stellar. There is the odd bad apple amongst the lot ;)

the camera matters less than the photographer

so the only thing i am waiting for is how fun will this camera be
if i buy it, i would not want to use it with my f mount lenses, totally defeats the purpose of being small

disappointed that it does not have a hotshoe for my flashes
the accessory port concept is limiting

it does have some interesting features
still wait and see before making any decisions
right now i have 2 advance P&S cameras, can the images from this outperform them?

The "Smart Photo Selector" looks like the "Best Shot" feature SonyEricsson had on their cellphones...

Actually, the lenses have been tweaked and the new batch is miles better than the initial batch. It's incredible what a difference there is.

And I was very impressed with the new Carl Zeiss lens. :)

Now this is interesting...
" it also incorporates a 'Hybrid' autofocus system that employs both Phase and Contrast Detection focus methods. The result is, according to Nikon, the fastest autofocus of any camera the company has ever made - including its professional flagship DSLR, the D3S"

Yes, there is pop up flash on the J1, you've got to manually pop it up of course - there is a slider behind. V1, you have to attach the separate flash unit.

Ok, here's a good sensor size comparison taken from Thom Hogan site.

As I said elsewhere, the aim is to plug the gap between compact and M4/3.
