Many many companies need free photographers like yourself, I am sure your free services are in heavy demand.

That is why when my boss tried to arrow me. I will tell him that my skill are not good enough for such an important occasion and ask them to get a more experience photographer.

As a civil servant with 2 senior officials (non-minister though) residing in office, I have always been given the "honour" of an SKW in events photography since I joined 2 years ago. Not helping that I am in planning division which normally organises planning events for the organisation...
Then my friend from another ministry asked me for lobang to do events photography for their corporate planning exercise coz they had a budget to it, and it was then I realised I had been shortchanged. My organisation has been getting such services from me for free.... Life is not fair. :cry:
But on the other hand, my events photography has kinda improved over the years. LOL.

I have shot for my company's events and other staff portaits for 'free' too over the years ...... BUT I ALWAYS tell them that to shoot properly I need to spend on some equipment like a carbon tripod with Foba head, extra memory cards.... extra flash and stands and special portrait lenses and backdrops etc etc etc which I always seem to NOT HAVE BUT DIE DIE MUST HAVE if the shoot is going to turn out well ....... then I get to claim the reciepts submitted for these purchases
If not allowed to buy, I really can only use a kit lens with pop up flash which THEY will be responsible for the type of photos that come out.
if you're not getting paid for it, fine ....... at least make the company pay for stuff u need to improve the odds of better pics coming out of your camera
by mutual agreement you might even get to keep everything provided you cover the company events for the rest of the year
p/s go for it ..... ask for a 70-200/2.8L THEN I will congratulate you .... if not, you deprive a freelancer or full-timer his bowl of rice

If I am him, I will find it hard to enjoy after reading this thread. Ganna arrowed, ganna made use, ganna swan on CS, colleagues sit down and drink, eat and have fun, but he become like a vendor, standing most of the time, and run here and there to shoot, sit down 5 minutes also worry if miss important moment will ganna questioned by boss or not, after that go home still must do editing photos and burn CD, after that still donno got 'cold comments' from boss and colleagues or not.
Sorry to sound so negative.
When I was approached last time, I said I sold me cameras and now got new hobby liao, my new hobby is eating and resting, and having a good time. Next time company got such events, I volunteer and offer my expertise on the best place to enjoy and chill.
still can enjoy lah.. eat first shoot later. nobody dare to say u also. but still, as long as it's company level stuffs, it should always hire somone else to do it.
in a organisation,When u have a skill or something useful (that not everyone has), don't be make used of. Instead make it your advantage.
This happened when I was a junior-ranked corporal when doing national service. I was only one of 3-4 personnal in the camp(small divison) who holds a license to drive a military vechical. There's two MID plate vehicles in the camp for official use. One is a passenger car and the other is a lorry.
Being the most junior, I was natually "arrowed" to do all the **** work that requires driving those vehicles. Instead of seeing it as extra work, I used to to my advantage. With that "power", I naturally had a advantage. Even high-ranked officers had to "butter" me. Instead of "ordering" me to drive them here and there, they have to politely ask me, this is so that I will not "report" them "abusing their rights" to use the vehicles(and petrol) instead of using their own private cars. although the vehicles are used to travel between various camps, There's a fine line between official work and private matters
so the officers had to be dangle some sort of "carrot" infront of me, like extra hours off and extra off days etc. They were also extra nice to me because I was useful. So my life as as a junior NSF was pretty good. I was excused from alot of other hard work because all I did was...drive drive drive. The other 3-4 person who had that driving license see it as a burden coz it's extra work. I see it as a priviledge
