Sony A55 & A33 DSLR Camera Not Suited For Tropical Climates

crap bought mine at 45SGD from MScolor

Rated 1500 mAh , but yet to receive so cannot compare and comment on the performance.. So far my experience with 3rd party batteries bought online for my previous systems, no issue.

$2 screen protector from Daiso for the A55. Just get the 3.5" one. But, it will affect the screen abit... colors and sharpness not as good as viewing on the screen without any protector. but for $2, its ok

mine was rated 2800mAh but it feels like the original battery only... LCD screen I still have the orginal LCD protector :( I have not find one yet maybe I'll head down the small HP shops I'm sure they could find one that matches

Oh yeah as you mentioned, there's Diaso near my place will go and check it out tks bro

Bro, I don't quite agree with you on the above...

My A55 is ALOT more advance compared to my A500, features wise A55 wins, High speed performance A55 wins, menu wise A55 wins, low light performance A55 wins...
I don't see how the A500 is more tweakable compared to the A55.

Although a first time DSLR user will have no problems adapting to the A33/A55 due to the ease of use, the feature sets are really more semi-pro than entry level:

* Pple are comparing it's video capabilities with the top of the line Professional DSLR.
* Pple are comparing it's high speed 10fps with top of the line professional DSLR.
* Pple are comparing it's hi ISO noise IQ with top of the line semi-pro APS-C DSLR.
* I am comparing it's low light AF capability with ??? ...theres none currently on the market !

How is this an 'entry-level' DSLR/DSLT ?
...if 'professional' means having a dedicated button for every single function, I'll hate how a professional camera will look covered with button/dials/levers everwhere.
...one of the beauty of the A700 is the customisable button feature which has endeared it to many users, and Sony's Nex users will soon have this customisable feature.

I think the A33/A55 is more closer to 'semi-pro' than 'entry-level', for sure Sony's roadmap is for these early SLT users to upgrade to the A77 and then ultimately to the A850/A900 FF replacement. :bsmilie:

Peace ! ...not flaming you or anything liddat, everyone's entitled to their own opinion, I'm just expressing mine. ;)

FULLY AGREE with you. a55 is one GREAT camera !

That is why I was a bit disturbed by remarks from other memebrs. They said if you want lots of features and a plaything camera, get the a55.
But if you are serious about learning photography, get a N & C !

Please tell me what makes a camera serious and professional one ? The only thing I can think of is a55 don't have weather seals.
I am sure what the N & C can do it, S can do better or at least on par !

I don't understand why a lot of people are bias and tend to put down S. sigh .....
I am sure a55 can be a serious camera too ! Right ?

:think: :think::think:

Despite the A33/55 having very "professional like" features, it is still considered by Sony as an entry level camera. Thats y it is put inside the A3 and A5 series, Sony's entry (A3 series) and upper entry (A5 series). So yeah, while its features is very impressive, its just an entry level.

Now what Im trying to say is, if Sony's Entry Level cameras is already so advanced, can u even imagine what the new Semi Pro models (A7 series) and Pro models (A8 and A9 series) will offer when they come out? If Sony's entry level is already nearly as good as other system's semi pro models, Im expecting the new A7 series to be very very exciting when it comes out :)

when sony start to climb too fast, other camp's people will start to find sony 'dangerous' and don't want to face the fact that sony is doing so much better.. so they try to find every single possible problem they can with sony. they just cant accept the fact that we pay around 1k to get 10FPS and they pay few times more to get that.;p

Other than battery life, I can't really think of anything that A500/550 is better than A33/55.

and the grip/size as well(at least for me).. if a33/55 would to be made bigger(at least a300 size) i would have bought it.. chose a550 in the end cause i like the big grip.. i have big hands.:bsmilie:

was surfing the Sony insider site and stumble on this it has the info on the heating when taking video and basic instruction on what to do

http://www.sonyinsider.com/2010/10/...-cameras-can-get-too-hot-when-shooting-video/

And here's the table for ref (photo came from the site) it show IS on and IS off recording time

looking at it A33 seems a bit better than A55 i think this is due to the sensor pixel density/count.

No worries Bro, ...results don't lie ! :bsmilie: ...I've been shooting with the A55 together with buddies from every camp ...when they show me their photos shot with C and N, I tell them it's a very nice picture, then I show them mine ! :sweatsm:

There's nothing like telling someone about the A55 features and then letting him/her try shooting with it themselves to see the results.
Since getting hold of my SLT, I've poison...I mean convinced quite a few buddies to get one ! ...and they're all very happy.

This is a small issue, 3rd party battery cost around S$15 online....

Can you share the link / site for the $15 battery purchase? Thanks stonefish

mine was rated 2800mAh but it feels like the original battery only... LCD screen I still have the orginal LCD protector :( I have not find one yet maybe I'll head down the small HP shops I'm sure they could find one that matches

how do you tell that the battery is rated at 2800mH is really 2800mAH?

Any expert out there kind enough to share whether will using 3rd party battery spoilt the camera? 1st time A33 user so not familar with camera. And also if the original battery is 1080mAh then i use a 2800mAh battery on the camera. will it spoilt the camera?

Thank you all in advance for the answer :)

there has always been talks that 3rd party batteries can cause expoision. Just like in handphone, u will always see ppl saying dont use 3rd party batteries, ur HP will burn or even explode suddenly.

So its the same case here, if u wanna use, just use it. If u r scared that ur camera will explode, then use original.

oh sorry it should be 2800mAh it is almost twice the capacity of the original Sony battery. I dont think it will damage anything in your camera becoz

1. you dont charge it directly via your cam not like mobile phones. All cam has a separate charger. so the risk of over charging and exploding battery is low.

2. The rating of 2800mAh is actually the capacity of the battery how much juice it could contain meaning larger the number the longer it will last same goes for lapyop battery 3 cell vs 6 or 9 cell battery those wont damage your laptop

The only thing that may damage any electronic devices are high current and high volatages or spikes. But most electronics has surge protector in a form of diodes it regulates the voltage.

Of course there's always a risk of using 3rd party batteries some may not pass the strict QC process and some may have internal issue due to low grade materials used.

I think it's more dagerous using a 3rd party flash than batteries coz flash normally has a high voltage capacitor to drive the flash light it self... so this could potentially coz over votage surge to its terminal and could fry your camera :)

Hi All,

The usage of 3rd party camera batteries have been debatable, as such, anyone interested to know where i got mne, PM me. Buy and use at your own risk. So far, I have been using 3rd party batteries for previous setup with no issue. I find the battery life and discharge rate to be on par with the original batteries.

Tropical climates top around 35-37C, but here in Australia it gets to 40-46C. So dunno SLTs will shut down themselves when taking still pictures or not....need some experienced brothers and sisters to help

At 40C+, you should be worried more about yourself than taking photos :)

True...:sweatsm: but unless inside some air conditioned building, anywhere outside is just like in the oven~ big chance Summer days will be with an on strike a33/55? hope I'm totally wrong with my assumptions, as I am very interested in getting a33/55 too ;)

I can't really say since I never use the a33/55 before, and never work in such hot condition, but i think there's a high chance that the camera will have problem. If you die die have to take photo in such condition, i think best to stick to conventional DSLR.
