anyone ever use macro ring light to shoot insects & flowers?
wonder how's the out come of the shots if compare with speed light. tks.

Not a macro expert here but what I can see from my macro pictures (bugs), is the ring light reflection at my subject's eye. I believe ring light is not suited for bugs specially if you want to emphasize the eyes. Other objects, maybe yes, the ring light is useful.

I prefer speed light with a good difuser for bugs and insects.
 

just with any light source you need to learn how to control it.
the ring light i more even with less shadows

both will work if you know how to control it

Dual lights for flexiblity and versatlibility (either dedicated ones or on macro flash bracket )prevails over ring light i felt..
