Buying dslr

Shall I buy it now @ reputable shop or wait for the coming it fair at SUNTEC tis coming June. Will the package be gd.

Why do everyone thik there's always gd lobang in IT show? :dunno:
forget abt it, just get it now, at a much much cheaper price instead of paying at RRP and getting mostly useless freebies..:)

Actually for a total newbie, buying at IT fair may be a good choice as they will usually package all the stuff a newbie may need (tripod, camera bag, cleaning kit, dry cabinet, etc) and make it hassle free.

Of course you pay a price for the convenience and the stuff you get may not be of the best quality, but it's a simple way to start out.

Depends on whether you want to save time and trouble, or save money. ;)

Like buying any other thing, useful to do your own homework first -- ie, compare prices, specifications and what you really need, etc, before buying. I find that DSLR "sales" are often not sales at all.

Ya. At IT shows:

They give you tripod that is not stable, you have to buy again.
They give you cleaning kit that is worth less than $5
They give you camera bag that is worth around $40-60 (if you are lucky)
They give you dry cab (only sometimes) which is worth $110.

But they sell you at full RRP (or what we call MSRP, manufacturer's suggested retail price), which is usually several hundreds more than what you can get at reputable stores any day.

And save time? When you buy at a reputable store, you can buy those lousy freebies too, all at the same time. And you can buy other accessories too. And no long lines, no crowds, no crazy parking at suntec(or expo center).

Your call.

PS. the only few times where it might be worth it to get at a show, is the purchase in purchase discounts, like when they offer nikon SB600 for 299, or the battery grip for D300/D700 for 99. But in the end, a lot of these deals are also available at the stores themselves outside of the show.

All I know is never buy them from lucky plaza unless you have someone with knowledge in this field with you. I got scammed just last week. Up to you to listen but good luck! Alot of people recommend Alan Photography though. Maybe you can consider

There are many other okay/reasonable shops selling photography equipment, nothing against MSColor here, where you can email/call to enquire the prices and/or add-ons if any :)

I don't know, AFAIK I got a great deal from one of the known (AND recommended) stores at Lucky Plaza... and I do shop at all other known stores away from LP and SLS as well.

From what i know is just get it now, as different days have a diff light settings that the sun gives and you might even miss lots of great shots. Because you may nvr know that you have a creativity in mind of taking that photo on that day but you just don't have the camera with you, which happen to me at old police academy today!! It was a nice scenery from my work place as the rain clouds comes in, but too bad i dun have a camera. i was like hiasss!!
