1. in what area is critique to be sought?
Color, angle, composition etc. i mean every thing :)

2. what one hopes to achieve with the piece of work?
As this was among my first shots sinc i start clicking, so i was just concern about capturing the cosmetic beauty of the flower.

3. under what circumstance is the picture taken? (physical conditions/emotions)
At noon w/o tripod.

4. what the critique seeker personally thinks of the picture
This is one of the picture i really like, as flower catch ur eyes and is coming out of the rest of the blur portion quiet nicely. But i dont known much about most of things so please advice me of all the defects.

FYI :- Camera 1000d with kit lens 18-55 IS
Mode :- Automatic (Close up)

I would say: "Nice try!". Although one of your first few photos, the composition is ok for a beginner, at least for me. Rule of third observed. However, I think the placement of the main subject is a bit odd. Photo slightly under-exposed. Maybe you should next time try to find an angle that fills the background with contrasty colour of another kind of flower to make the main subject stand out even more.

Hi sidmed5,

Your main subject is in shadow, it will be better if the flower is lit up by sunshine.

Although it's blurred out, the background (is it sand?) is yellowish too. To make your subject standout, you can try using more greenery as the background.

The orientation of the flower: the flower is facing to the slightly right, it will work better if it is facing slightly towards the left.

Hope these helps :)

Hi,

thanks for ur comments.

Contrast Background concept is clear to me.
Can you advice me on the placement. where u think i should put the subject

Sid

u got use flash? shld use.

I like the concept. Having a flower in focus in the foreground and another similar flower blurred in the background. If the background behind the blurred flower is greener, it would have been perfect.

Add a quote or a poem on the top left?

Agree with auden09, i think u should use flash to eliminate the shadow in the flower. Composition wise, better give some space at the left side since it is facing right side.
Good attempt bro...

I will say the background is rather distracting. Too much background elements with the redish ground, soften the main subject. Noon isn't a good timing for this angle of shot. The shadow cast by the top pedals, darken the main subject.

Here's a personal thought of suggestion: I think cosmetic beauty of flower can be portray with macro, like abstract of the core of the flower.

anxilign...i think noon is ok leh, just that need flash. eh i think the repairs may be completed. i'll call nikon tmr. i last week call them to rush. say i need by thurs for your graduation. lol! so they say they will try and call by wed.
