Kx dual lens kit ...

To add more perspective to the table, can i share my thoughts?

I got my k-x last week from OP, and i too at first wanted the dual lens kit.. thought it will save me some cash to get it as a set.

But in the end, no news (as of last week) that emjay will bring in the dual lens kit, so i went with fellow brothers' recommendation to get the single len kit first den buy separately if needed.

Boy, 1 week later, i am quite glad i didn't get the dual lens kit, cos i realised that i am a all-in-one zoom user after all... I borrowed my cousin's Nikon D90 to try for a few days (she used a 18-200mm zoom), and once i got the k-x kit lens, i realised that i liked the all in one option, better than to use 2 lenses of 18-55 and 50-200. Cos i carry my k-x with me all the time, i dun want to bother much with changing lens all the time.

I got a 28-200 off 2nd hand here in the end =) very happy with it so far.

Just want to share with other newbies that if you're like me, you might prefer to save on the dual kit lens and buy a all-in-1 instead. =) Better yet, some brothers here are eyeing the extra lens haha...

Nope, they are not the same. Kit lens for k-x are DA "L" and the one priced at $499 is DA without the L. It takes a while to figure out the naming convention of lens but it's worth to know.

I think you can buy the body alone. Just ask around, some shop might sell the body and keep the kit lens

Technically it's called the telephoto side rather than zoom side. Zoom simply means the focal length is variable, as opposed to fix-focal lengths (also called primes). A wide angle lens can also be a zoom lens, e.g. the 12-24mm f4 zoom and a supertelephoto, e.g. 600mm f4 need not be a zoom. Somehow a lot of people have this misinterpretation of the meaning of zoom in photography. Yeah, intuitive, it feels like zoom-far-far and that's where proabbly the misconception arises.

But if you try a cheapy 50/2 manual lens, you'd see how much better you can get from your Kx

Saw some pple asking abt dual lens. By a strange concidence, I got a verbal quote from SLR-Revolution. The dual lens kit (with 50-200mm) is about $1156...while the (55-300mm) is abt $1370. I badly scribbled the pricing down in the afternoon as I was in a rush. So it might be better to double check the pricing, the kits are in already from what I understand.

Then tell them 1260 is the max you wanna pay and see how. If no deal, just walk away and try another shop.

I also think it's reasonable to sell for somewhere around $1250 for the 55-300 kit (950 for the body w/ kit lens, plus 300 for the 55300 as a bundled deal).

I think, since you are interested in the Red, then you shd get the Red with the matching Kit lens(which is also red). Sooner or later someone will want to offload the 55-300mm in the classifieds.

hahaha... yah, i'm also amazed at his speed and high leveled LBA. :bsmilie: Given time, he will have an extensive manual lens collection. Maybe we can poison him a little with the 3 little gems - FA31 limited, FA43 limited, and some say the best autofocus prime lens ever made FA77 limited.

Wish I have S$3000 to get all of them :think:
