16-35 or 24 for landscape
24-70 or 50 or 85 for street/general stuff
24-70 or 85 or 135 for portraiture
24-70 or 50 or 85 for street/general stuff

For more gear, I will bring 16-35,24-70, 50 f1.4 , 70-200 f2.8 IS in a backpack
Using the 17-40 for landscape, 100 for macro/portrait and 50 for others. But if have extra dough, I suppose will get 28/1.8 + 85/1.8. Primes are so much lighter to carry around and shoot with.
I believe strongly in primes as well, previously I was on the 28 f1.8 + 50 f1.4 + 85 f1.8 setup with my 5D.
Later on I discovered 50 mm's perspective was not that suitable for specific task... abit too wide/unflattering for portraiture but too tight for landscape (the old 40 mm f1.8 stuff do way better for landscape). It's no where but it's the best perspective for "candids" imho.
So now i'm on 85 f1.2L and 28 f1.8... but planning to upgrade to 24 f1.4L within 2 weeks time.
So my recommendation if you go fully prime;
85 f1.8 if low on cash, 85 f1.2L if you are slightly more loaded (and don't mind 1/2 to 3/4 slower AF)
28 f1.8 if low on cash... or else 24L or 35L depending on your preference. I would take 24L due to the fact it captures more in a frame, better for a do it all wide-angle prime.
Other stuff to go on to include the legendary 135 f2L, 50L (like i said, awkward perspective imho, but good for alot of candids and informal shooting) and maybe a 100 mm IS f2.8L macro.
You won't feel much BBB anymore after that, lol.
Yes, was thinking along that line as well but I suppose will stop at the 28/1.8 + 85/1.8 stage. The first lens coincides nicely with the GRD3 I intend to get as well ;p
I keep thinking you're still on Nikon camp. Haha. For me 28mm is a bit on the wide side for general usage. I like to carry both a 35 and 50 around when going on casual outings with friends. Gets you good candids and across-the-table shots.
Are you sure you want to do this? have you tried doing this b4?
Thanks for all the wonderful and enlightening comments and opinions.
But lets say i was only one lens what would it be... Like a All in one lens..
And what kinda shooting would you be using it for..

And do sit down to think why you should try to find a "best all in one lens" if you're into FF D-SLR. I think there is simply no such thing if you want to capture the best perspective of any subject...
Don't get me wrong but te purpose to find a all in one lens is due to the weight !!!

I'm overseas now with a FF. I think the idea of all in one is complete crap on a FF(no offense to TS). if you talk abt 28-300L it is so heavy and the aperture is variable. i never appreciate UWA until i buy one. it is so nice to use for landscape...to some 24mm might suffice but having say so...u can try rent one to take a look.
I used to travel with 2 zoom 2470 and 70200 all f2.8..nice combo..but a little heavy
now i use my 35L and sigma 12-24 more than anything.
else buy a crop and get a 18-200 for light weight.
sigma 12-24 is great
was using 16-35L before, change to 12-24 because of the 16-35 barrel distortion, and never regret since then...
and 12mm WA effect is just overwhelming now i'm 12mm addict.. >_<
ah ya, i'm travelling with 12-24 and 24-105 right now... good combo...
but i miss my 85 and 135 >_<
Do yo mean that the Sigma 12-24 does not have any barrel distortion?
