This I do agreed. :bsmilie: ..... owning a camera is a luxury item during that period.....I still remember my first camera is a Yashika film compact camera with no film motor drive....I had been using it from secondary school till university. Last time, cameras are much more durable and easy to use.
We had to assemble in the front schoolyard for dismissal and for my primary school, it was abit lottery one....if we finish our last class early, we can assemble nearer to the edge of the carpark.....coz they always dismiss the classes based on rows.....
Wah! Not another nostalgia thread again! haha
Who remember the BBC Microcomputer? Used to see them at Times bookstore at Pheonix hotel basement when I was a small boy but don't know what it is about. And it cost like thousand dollars then. People used it to learn BASIC programming.
Creative first shop was at the old Funan centre 5th floor. Still can vaguely remember stepping into the shop and saw Mr. Sim demo the Cubic 99.
SBC's Fivefoot way drama and Air force drama.
I think I had quite a good life in the 80s, didnt get the chance to stay in Kumpong. Though somapa(spell correct or not) was just right across my place, upper changi road, the plot of land that the failed NSW school was suppose to sit on.
I stayed at the private properties along upper changi road, just behind the Shell station, still there, no money to shift house :bsmilie:
Anyway, what happen to somapa? I remember there used to be a clinic there, does anyone remember this place? Is there any like photographic documentation of that place? My memories of it are quite blur. Only remember my mom bring me there to see the doctors, nightmare la........
Still can remember when I get my 1st Reebok shoe (all white) and wear it to school was in sec 4. Feel I'm really the most down-to-earth and also very well known as a trend setter in school. Every eyed on my shoe. Then everyone start get their own pair. Even my hair style when I started to cut table-top like the duos group 'BROS', its really a phenomena that time.
Reebok ERS. "For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction".
Reebok Pump. Who can forget the Michael Chang advertisement?
BROS is huge in the 80s. When will I be famous, Drop the boy, I own you nothing. Their 3 man logo was the most drawn image in everyone's text books :bsmilie:
hey pal,
My parents used to stay in Somapah Rd village (Kampung Padang Terbakar to be exact) in the 70s before they shift to Bedok South. I had the luxury to feel both in HDB and the village life. Damn it was hell of a good time indeed back then. I'd tagged my mum every weekend to go back to our village and would always swim in the sea(east coast), venture into small forest and do what naughty boys would do:bsmilie:
Best to my knowledge, Somapah Rd leads to several villages namely Jalan Darat Nenas, Koh Sek Lim Rd(the current NEWATER plant & Visitor's Centre), Kampung Padang Terbakar and several others which I can't remember. In fact, the Tanah Merah Country Club, Changi South Industrial Park, Singapore Expo, Xilin Ave are all the developed areas where the previous somapah rd links to.
In '86, I went to Changkat Changi Sec Sch located @ Jalan Tiga Ratus(still exist) which is opposite Somapah Rd. It was around the 80s when the villages were torn down to pave way for development. Gradually, the somapah road and a small SBS bus depot beside S'pore Expo were closed. Come to think of it, it's quite sad that I didn't document it in print.
I'm asking my parents to allow me to browse thru' their old photo albums. So anyone with any pics, care to share?
cheers everyone

Just to bring back those old good-times.
Here some images.
SBS bus in 80's
Then the double-decker
Wow! Those were the old school buses! I used to take them as a kid. The double deck was one jerky ride on the top man!
I like to sit in the front row on the 2nd deck and then pretend I'm driving the bus ;p
Comon, I don't think I'm the only doing that :bsmilie:
I guess you guys must be familiar with these 2 tv programmes.
All time favourite.
Knight Rider with the talking car 'KITT'
The A-Teams
