Its not illegal to carry ladders around. Just depends if the person using them is civil minded enough to exercise some common sense.....

Of course not. It's F1, not an import night powwow. There are rules on viewing angles and all that.
Maybe they scare photographer climb onto the tracks with the ladder.. I remember reading that some photographer jump on to the stage to take photo of model during some fashion show.

Bringing ladders to fashion events are ok so long as they aren't against the regulations or obstructing the view of other spectators. Reminds me of one event that i attended last year, there was this "wall" of photographers right in front of the stage flashing away while spectators has to struggle behind to get a decent view, not good.
The TS should keep the title of the post and the title of the poll consistent for a start. Bringing and standing means different things.
In any case, blame the person, not the tool. Many pros actually recommend it for getting the shots. But what the books often dun mention is courtesy because they assume that it is so basic. However, it is clearly not as basic at the recent SIN2008 where there were complaints of people using step ladder up close in front, blocking everybody who is behind them. However, I think there is also a problem here. If the person with the step ladder sets up in a place where no one is behind him at that time, but later on, people move in behind him, then he is OK, I guess. He was there first and you cannot expect him to move just because u want to stand behind him. But if he muscles into the crowd near the front and then sets up and thus blocks everyone behind...this is SO wrong and discourteous.
Also, I appreciate that there is a cost to bringing the ladder. Can u imagine dragging that thing on to MRT/bus and than dragging it around the show while handling all that photographic equipment? For me, I would not bother.

I think common courtesy should be administered. If you're blocking alot of people, then after taking a few shots, maybe you can step down or lend others your chair? (Not very sure abt this though).
I'm actually against those that bring ladders to any events unless they stand at the very last row that will not block anyone.
People that bring ladders usually have cars which has no problem bring it along. Ladders bring-er are basically 2 types. They either come early for the show and place the ladder to book a good location. They will only stand on the ladder just before the show starts and block all those behind that has gathers during these period. Another type is those coming just 10-15 minutes before the show squeeze in behind those standing photographers to setup their ladder but this will also block spectators behind.
Either way I do not like it. I normally come early to find a good position. If you are late, too bad. As camera gets cheaper and more people owns one, these situation will only get worse.

As the models are facing the other direction, most photographer wait for the models to turn over before taking their picture while this an pek zoom on their buttocks and snap. i dun own a car. i carry my ladder w/FBO when there are "important" events. imagine carrying all those weight and if, also rushing for 2-3 events in 1 day.:sweat:

Recently at Eastpoint, during the Miss Singapore World SemiFinals, there was a group of PGs who are standing right behind the judges (who are sitting down), and they actually stand on the ladders and block everyone behind.
