depends what you intend to do, i would recommend the Pentax K200D if you want something other then Nikon and Canon.

Considering Pentax's financial woes... I'd recommend Sony instead. ;)

hee hee hee

same boat, don't need to laugh

Hahha!

True, but it's not major and didn't really impact the DSLR division.

If Hoya can keep making enough money to support it's Pentax division, then all's good.

yeah.. but in any case, there will also be buyouts and all that.

sony also took over KM, no? though i'm not sure about the exact details.

it all stems from them not giving their market base the lenses they want like f/2.8 zoom range for those who dont need weather sealing/sdm or rather cant afford the DA* range. hopefully Hoya`s leadership will listen more to its users..what is needed now is not new bodies but rather a more diverse (perhaps cheaper?) range of lenses.

gonna be like any acquisition

i have just checked my budget is just about 900+. is this sum of money good enough to get me a nikon/ canon also?

You can, but i don't think C/N entry level offerings can beat those from Sony/Pentax, at least my opinion anyway.

Hi, can anyone suggest any good entry level cameras for me? i am new in this area. preferably cameras from sony? cause i think i can get discount for sony cameras :) thanks :)

:dunno:

Your curretn budget sets you confortable for 2nd hand Sony DSLR, you can check out the Buy and Sell section.

Quite a lot of ppl sell to upgrade to A700 / A900, thus its not that the camera is defective or inferior, do some basics check and you should be able to get a good set of A300 / A200 at your budget.

:)

Heard that a brand new Sony A200 with kit lens is selling at $888 only and if you can get a discount, guess it would be a great deal.

1000D used at TCW, with warr, $780 with Kit.
not a bad deal.

you can get a new D60 with the kit lens.
it comes with free memory card, tripod, cleaning kit etc.
and you still have free cash to buy a dry box and a bottle of silical gel and a cheap filter.

D60 is a good entry-level dslr and it's within your budget. i would recommend this model but the choice is ultimately yours to decide.

Without a built-in motor on the D60, means quite a number of Nikon lens can't do AF. Hence the camera is not in my list of recommendation....

Plus only 3-point AF...
