great job~! buttie

WIDE WIDE GRIN!!!
:D x 10

i gotta show these comments to rebecca.

muahaha!

I actually wanted to avoid too much C&C... i'm not a very good photographer myself and didn't want to end up sounding like slamming.

Incidentally I did a ballet shoot with my friend at fort canning on last Wednesday too, surprised to find 4-6 poses repeated in your shoots! Wonder if the ballet world is too limited in dance vocabulary =X

Anyway, I'll just comment on my thoughts for all the pictures k... take it with a pinch of salt, they're just my opinion.

1) bent leg. in back bend poses the arms should be behind the head, not covering. Motion blur also.

2) it may not be obvious, but I can tell you the front leg is not straight. both legs turned in, not sure if its intentional or dancers ability. I'd also like the right arm to be seen, perhaps in a straight line. (sort of like using the arm line of pic 3) Same in pic 6, right arm unseen.

3) I'd have her face the other corner (to the left) instead, because can't see the leg line of the back leg. take note of the fingers too. If you must, just give the dancer a 10 cent coin to pinch with the thumb and the middle bone of the 3rd finger. Thats the classically correct line. Or that's how we teach little children actually...

5) back leg... abit unclear if its to be bent or straight. but its pretty covered up so I kind of like this. Its harder to go wrong with Modern dance poses.

7) the hip alignment is 'twisted'. ie. its a major technical flaw in dance... covered by the dress and won't be obvious to non-dancers actually.

8) the bow +bent leg shows up here again, exactly like the first picture.

9) excellent position from the girl on the left, technically perfect. I just feel that they were off sync, the right girl is coming down already... if not I'd give you 5 stars for this shot!

Hm, to your question to hide the bow legs... its the nemesis of dancers to be born with bow-legs, training doesn't really affect, its genetics. How to hide it? Its through perfect turn-out, not an easy task either... usually you can only hide 1 leg, so you gotta play with the angles, the raised leg should be perfectly turned out.

Anyway its not easy, may seem like a lot of critics but your photos are commenable really. My friend and I shot 400 shots over 3.5 hours and only about 20 good pics... did a same jump over and over to get all the techniques in place.

thankyou, loved your comments and deeply appreciated. I opened a new window and compared every one of it to the picture simultaneously it puts alot of importance on many small aspects that i had completely overlooked.

Now i understand about bow legs because it seems ballet dancers seem to train so much they tend to even walk with their feet pointing out which is very obvious (or at least from a few i saw). I think the bow leg flaw can be better concealed by shooting from the front like #3 yet needing to show more of the pose and hide less of other limbs' areas.

Thanks alot once again! I hope I have a chance to shoot with you in the future and hopefully learn from you on the spot. Perhaps ilovebeaches can organise one more of such shoot and we can go together :)

LOL! didn't know there was so much fuss about the use of 'breakthrough'. Yes, I am referring to the ones specifically posted in this forum, which generally follow a safe and tired studio formula.

don't worry i always use the 'wrong' words when i talk to my girlfriend too..noted and thanks!

these are great shots bro... nice work...

glad you liked them! thankyou

your 55 worth every single cent.
remember stock photos earn money belanjar makan.ha.

anyway thanks for giving up your virginity to me...

might be submitting as editorial images though due to the noise levels but thanks for organising ya...

regarding virginity erm in the photography sense please let me clarify haha

Its worth it already. I can process and keep 50 shots from a group shoot. But if none are as good as this series... so, I'd rather trade places with u ;)
kudos to you, models and organiser.

thats flattering man, but good is never enough for all of us and there will never be a 'best' in photography or at least for the long term. lets all keep working harder!

buttie, u are fast!! nice pictures!!

Pics are still in raw format in my pc... :bsmilie:

was a good shoot so got strong motivation to process the photos, i think yesterday was a long day for both of us, its justifiable why your pics still aren't process, i slept at 3am hehe

i like #6 and #8, the space is a lot better used there.

have you considered correcting the verticals? for example, when i correct #6 and clone in the bottom left, the image comes out a lot more "ordered"

hey thanks alot, i would have to admit some pictures were cropped abit regarding having space/less space

yep i did consider the distortion but i had wanted it like that otherwise i would have chosen to shoot wide and straight on. i've got some pictures shot at eye level but somehow like the diagonals formed by distortion, is it just me or straight on will be more ideal? feel free to post the corrected version of #6, i can envision how it will turn out already

Yo buttie.Nice work.I love #2 & 3.looks like the subject is floating...very good angle and technique.

hihi! thanks! a pity there were some blocking of limbs as raised by ombre. i wish to improve on every picture if possible in the future heh

very lovely series indeed. :)

hey thanks! your nick seems familiar, from SIM? not sure what is your real name to this nick though paiseh!

very nice way of freezing the moments, compositioning the picture, usuage of natural lights. Good photographer!

i second what ombre had said, nice pictures but there some technical errors in some of the dance moves, can be easily seen as im also a dancer myself.

thankyou! glad that you second what ombre mention to highlight mistakes/flaws that I had overlooked!

ahh not again! haha thanks. #1 got motion blur already lol :embrass:
i've not seen people trying slow sync flash for dance shoot, maybe its not technically artistic but rather interesting. no harm trying though

hey serene, she doesn't have a CS account? you got to show her then, hopefully my picture did some justice to your efforts, apparently we all got room for improvements still!

Yes indeed, do ask me next time =) Actually mpguitars did ask me however I was working on that day... pity =(

Anyway, didn't anyone try some 'on the ground' poses? so many jumps, a tad bit too ambitious don't you think? haha.

Anyway I'd love to join if I have the chance next time. =) Do you have any more series that I can view like a flickr or something?

Sorry not very constructive comment but...Lovely! nice lighting and dance pose by the models.

very refreshing to see something different from the usual stuff one expects from the portraits sections. cool!

feel free to post the corrected version of #6, i can envision how it will turn out already

The first few lots are some of the best dance shots i've seen in a while.... great work on the captures and i see mpguitars starting to influence more and more dance shoots soon...

Oh... and some of the moves by the dancers were terrific... not that i dance... but the things serene does to show she can dance man....

Credits to all of you.. congratulations too.
