Macro for these non-specialised lenses means that they are able to focus closer than the other lenses And with a longer focal length, it can have a macro effect on the subject but normally the macro ratio is still pretty poor of about 1:3 or 1:4
Only dedicated macro lenses can give you ratios of 1:1 or better.
Nope... a 100mm lens may not be able to focus close. A 100mm macro would be able to focus much closer at say 20-30cm from the image plane. A normal lens may only be able to do so at a distance of say 50cm onwards...
The Nikkor version doesn't advertise itself as a macro, even though it has a fixed focusing distance of 38cm (if I remember correctly) across the focal length...
