I don't own one. A few reason why I don't.
  1. Adds weight
  2. Don't need extra battery life
  3. Comfortable without it

I am also genuinely surprised that there are more people who own a vertical grip than people who do not.

Just got one for my 30D today... hurhur... Reason simple- Big Guy/ Fat Fingers.... :p

normally inside must put how many AA batts?
It will last a few times more shots than the original lithium batt?

When the vertical grip is in use, it will only drain the AA batts rather than the lithium batt? Or is there a switch for me to choose?
And will it help to give / support power to my flash unit?

6 AA batts if i nv remb wrongly. A lil lazy to go take out my box and take a look. =/
Yes, it will definitely increase your battery life..

Also, when u fix in the grip, you can only choose between 1) Use 2x lithium batt OR 2) Use 6x AA batts. Hope that answers your questions.

And correct me if i'm wrong, but if you are using external flash, it won't give/support power to it. Built-in flash i'm not very sure, cos i don't use it. =/

For better balance. Longer battery lasting, as I don't have to worry when 1 is flat, it auto switches to the other battery...

Can use AA in a pinch.

i don't like the idea of flashing my armpit in public... :bsmilie:
so for me, i use a grip and it stays on all the time unless i intend to travel.
my hands are kinda big and fingers kinda long, so i find the grip useful in providing additional grip and confidence.
it also helps in balancing the body and lens, especially when using longer lenses.
i also feel more comfortable shooting in portrait orientation.

the additional weight is to keep myself fit for IPPT.. just kidding :bsmilie:

im a big guy with a big hand... and i prefer to use hand strap than neck strap...

Tat day i went to a home for children, the kids were so naughty and rude. Keep asking me to show them the pic on my lcd. Then got 1 kid keep slapping my front lens. Lucky i got put filter, at most clean the fingerprints. Then while i'm not aware, he came from the side and push me. Wtf man, lucky i'm holding tight to camera with the strap around my neck and i didn't fell down. So to play safe, i better use the strap all the time.

With the grip... the weight is more balanced when I use the 80-200 f/2.8 lens, and it also gives a better grip when shooting portraits ;)

I agreed... I am using a Canon 18-200mm on my 450D, the extra weight of the vertical grip helps alot... :)

1. Balance
2. More power.
3. Big Guy, Fat Fingers.
4. Got it cheap 2nd hand. ;p

I bought my grip because i thought the features would be useful. In the end after a trip i decided i just like my cam body smaller and less bulky

Better balance when using 70-200mm on my 350D.

Really appreciate when taking portraits :)

Portrait shooting
Heavier (plus point)
Better balance with bigger lenses
Better balance with larger flash (not top heavy)
Pinky isn't free to move around (using 400D)

Only 1 reason for me ... VERTICAL GRIP and it is extremely comfortable with grip. Seriously I dun really feel that its that heavy at all ;)

I forgot to add another reason. I have my neckstrap tied to the bottom strap area of the grip. Makes my lens point down that way.

sounds interesting. do u have a pic?

;p

Batt grip on all cams. Its a must for me.

Most times i don't have a neck strap and i prefer to hand held while working. When not in use just store it back in the bag for transport to the next venue.

If working on a rush schedule then a hand strap with batt grip is attached as so i can run and chase the subjects.

I carry at least 5 batts, stuff 2 in for each grip for each cam and one spare

Better balance for me as its a firmer broader grip plus i feel unbalance with no batt grip when flash is attached like top heavy. Maybe just my imagination. lol
