What do you guys think of sellers who disappear after selling?

Guys who promise to pass me their warranty cards after selling to me, when i contact them, they will never ever pick up the call or answer my sms-es or PMs.

Met 2 of such cases already.

anyone had such an experience before?

:bsmilie:

I sold someone a D200 without the warranty card  But i mailed him the receipt later :)

As for me, i'd never make such deals. I msg them repeatedly to remind to bring the receipt. No receipt, no talk :nono:

not everyone as honest as you ma.

I just dun understand why will people do such a thing. There is such a thing as karma lor.

And the lastest case I met, the fella was only a kid. And I was in a hurry, so I took his words for it, that the thing was what it was supposed to be. I went home, and only checked it the nxt morning, and realised it was a US set. Grey. And he had the cheek to tell me when we met up that the warranty card was at home, and the receipt was with another item, he will have to photocopy and email me.

I really feel sorry for such kids, who doesnt know what is the value of honesty.

Put the name out, so that we know who to avoid.

:(

Well, next time be more observant?

and refuse to deal if they can't produce a receipt :)
Stating their names nice and clear here helps too (no ranting of course ;) )

Who was the kid and what did you buy btw?

I dont wish to pinpoint that fella out. Everyone deserves a chance to learn from his mistakes. But I am just disappointed in his ethics, or the lack of it.

That kid stays at Ubi Ave 1, and looks like he is only bout 15 or 16 year old. We agreed on the price, and he came without the lens filter. He told me he thought I didnt want the filter, I was like, ok, so lets work out a new price. So after working out a new price, i asked for receipt and warranty card (cos he said in one of the sales thread it was bought in April 2008) which he said he left it at home. I was in a hurry, and since he looked innocent enough, I took his word for it.

Was sorely disappointed. The first time i met another such seller, he was nice and friendly and drives a car, and like the second one, refuses to answer calls and sms-es after transaction. both times i got lens.

is either you exposed them or don't deal with such ppl in the future.
when they are single or double digit posters, is already a sign to watch out for when dealing with them.
cause chances are, he's here to do business solely...and some of them are even from HWZ or vr-zone...

if is not a complete deal as the seller has indicated in his thread, then i'll just say sorry for wasting their time and walk away.
if the seller is dead serious in closing the deal, he/she should bring everything as indicated in his/her WTS thread.

Once I tried to engage a medium to talk the seller who disappeared.

Just to ponder. If the box has Jap words, means its a Jap set?

Or is there any possibility that the initial sets are from Jap before they have local sets? Talking about Nikon.

I was fortunate. I send them the money and get the goods later....

This is a common problem when buying 2nd hand items. Sellers can promise the world when they are selling but when it comes to delivery, there will be incidences where delivery is not 100 % of promised item.

One way to overcome this is to name the seller's nick so that other members can be vigilant when dealing with the same nick. This also serves as a deterrent to "bad apples" within CS who take advantage of the generosity of the members here. Desiring to give the seller a "second chance" is at best a noble thought .. if the guy did it once and got away with it, what makes us think that he will not do it a 2nd time, a 3rd time and so on and so forth.

Naming the seller serves not only as a warning to other members but it also serves as a warning to "bad apples" and "would be bad apples" not to take advantage of CS members. Its nasty for the seller - i agree .. but we have to start somewhere. The bitter pill needs to be swallowed before the disease can be eradicated. I can see from this thread that there are many honest members here .. why should our reputation be spoilt by bad apples amongst the group. I say.. name their nick, but be professional about it !

But then again, thats just my opinion :)

Did you succeed? Would like an intro to this medium if so.

The medium couldn't locate him behind the gate beyond.

He can sense that there is life in him and still walking on the earth.

The medium advised to put 3 joss sticks out to pray for safe delivery next time I buy online.

emm.. sometimes it depend on luck too.. or u can "sense" something when u talk to the seller via phone before meet-up.. or even via SMS.. ;) so far i deal twice from CS .. where i am a buyer.. :)

There was once when i sold my lens to this nice guy but forgot to bring along the hood!!!!

I was apologetic and I gave him a "deposit" refund and that we meet up few days later to pass him the hood.

Thankfully, the buyer was very understanding was trusting of me. :)

Deal done, made a friend.

the first incident, i placed a WTB thread, and he contacted me directly on my phone, so i have no idea about his nick online. but he seemed like a friendly guy enough, but he was late for 15 min, and things led from one to another, ended up there wasnt too much daylight left to check the lens throoughly, so i just tested on the functionality. din check the box for warranty card or receipt.

second time was cos it was an impromptu meet up, and after meeting him, i realised he was just a kid. when i was a kid, and dealing with B&S (not camera stuff, but marine stuff) i was totally honest, and the people around me were too. so i sorta presumed he would be the same. I mean, its natural to give kids the benefit of the doubt right. and since i was already there, i din wanna walk away from the sale.

you mean, we should have his name out in the open, even if he is a kid, and promised me things that was not true in the end??

think maybe i have a very trusting nature. either that, or that kid was quite firm and convincing, doesnt sound shifty to me..
