Haha, yes. Only just begun. :bsmilie: After that you will be looking into other kinds of glass...don't forget to try the Leicas. Some folks think that 'Leica' stands for stuck-up people, or those who only believe in that brand and nothing else. I think that's an unfair statement.

Truth be told, the Leica lenses I've used seem to render differently from Canon lenses. Once again, the emphasis is on 'different', not 'better' or 'worse'. It's a matter of what you like.

At the Leica forums people commonly talk about the R lens prices going rock-bottom, and this is good because alternative glass users stand to benefit. Leica glass, contrary to popular belief, is no longer 'ridiculously expensive'. I got 3 of their lenses (plus still saved some) for the price of a single Canon L.

Check this one out. It talks about the Summilux-R 80/1.4. It's the next lens I'd be gunning for, if I had the cash and could justify spending that much on a lens I might not use all that often. As it is I already have a Summicron 90/2 that hasn't seen much use, but that's primarily because I sent it home for cleaning.

For the money I got from the Canon 24-105L second hand, I bought the Cron 35 and 90 and recently, an Elmar 180/4. There's a Telyt 400/5 coming soon...once I get payment to the seller!

Haha, I wouldn't be in the know on these things. Frankly, I don't have the habit of looking and drooling over things I can't afford. I'd rather decide what I want to buy and check the price. If affordable then I'd save and buy it. If not then I'd just close my mind to it and forget everything about it.

There's a number of Leica and CZ lenses on sale here most of the time.

remember voigtlander 125/2.5 macro EF mount lens?

yes, now carl zeiss will make EF mount ZEISS prime

(but quite lots ZF lens lost the battle when compared with old Y/C mount zeiss)(I think the reason is the glass issue, now people do not use PB galss and radioactive element to make lens)

Man, I had that lens for a while. It was just awesome. Not just the sharpness and contrast but the bokeh...ultimately I still sold it because I wasn't using the lens often enough. But wow, it was a great experience.

Now looking at other Leica glass...35-70mm f/4 and even the 'Lux 80!

Hi, I'm also thinking of getting a used Leica lens to go with a Canon camera and saw this 100mm f4 macro Elmar for sale. I don't seem to be able to find much info about on the net. So could you guys give me some?

Never used this lens myself and hence cannot advise. There used to be a free version of Erwin Puts Leica Lens book available for download on his site but it's recently been taken off. However it's supposed to become available again soon. Keep watch on this site:

Ultimately, ask yourself why you are buying a particular lens, and be sure you do not overpay. Then again, don't blindly buy anything that is cheap. I think there's very few dogs in Leica's lens stable but every lens would have a quirk you have to pay attention to, unless you're getting some of the latest designs, which are going to be massively expensive. Check out the going rates especially at Ebay and search Google to find the forums where they can advise further on these things. Try the Leica Lens forum also:

Just got my hands on the Zeiss Jena Pancolar 50mm 1.8.

Probably the sharpest prime i have ( compared to Zeiss Planar 50mm 1.7, Super Takumar 50mm 1.4, Rollei HFT Planar 50mm 1.8, Nikkor 50mm 1.4/1.8 AI-S and Rokkor 58mm 1.4 )

The Bokeh is lovely and it's sharp even wide open.

That's pretty nice bokeh indeed, in some of the photos. There's been a number of positive comments on this lens. I may be wrong, but it's perhaps the updated version of the Pancolar 50/2 which I have. That lens has funky bokeh when there's highlights in the background which makes it quite interesting, however I have not used it extensively because 35mm was previously my favorite focal length.

seems if upcoming release of CZ lens with EOS mount then this adapter is of no use liao, right?

also, anyone can recommend where to get CZ lens please? looking to get 50mm..

Also, just a quick update...the Leica Telyt 400/5 that I bought recently just arrived in the mail. It's a beast and very large, and it attaches to any Canon camera by means of a Visoflex M39-EOS adapter. Together the whole setup weighs about 4kg:

A great looking lens and handholdable in good light at ISO 200. Initial impressions show moderate amounts of CA and low-medium contrast but resolution looks excellent. Contrast itself is easy to tweak.

anyone use DKL mount schneider, voigtlander and rodenstock on canon?;)

for FD user, best way is to use modification methid change FD/FL to M42, then, can use at canon. pentax, sony bodies.

FD mod to EOS also easily.
