Arsenal to snatch Barry?

After Martin O'Neill decided that there isn't a deadline on Gareth Barry's potential move to Liverpool, the papers are inevitably full of their own theories about what will happen next.

Most actually play it with a fairly straight bat, simply saying the move to Liverpool is now expected to go through at some point.

However, The Sunday Express unleashes a Kevin Pietersen-style flamingo shot with the report that Arsenal are going to sneak in and buy Barry, with Justin Hoyte, Armand Traore and a 'substantial fee' going the other way.

Even though it largely goes against every transfer instinct in Arsene Wenger's body, the longer Liverpool dither over this one the more likely the move to Arsenal becomes.

pls snatch. pls!! we can gif u zeronin too for ur hardwork!!!:bsmilie:

FIVE-STAR CHEL$ki THRASH MILAN

Kaka might want to reconsider his loyalty to AC Milan after the Italians were thrashed 5-0 by his summer suitors Chelsea in Moscow.

Four goals from a razor-sharp Nicolas Anelka were more than enough to settle the third-place play-off in the Railways Cup pre-season tournament after Frank Lampard opened the scoring.

Milan's Brazilian star did not feature as his team put in a miserable display, typified by some comically inept goalkeeping by Zeljko Kalac.

Audrius Ksanavicius handed Hearts manager Csaba Laszlo victory in his first game at Tynecastle as the Edinburgh club beat Hull 1-0.

The Lithuanian headed home just after the half-hour mark in a game of few chances.

Juventus coach Claudio Ranieri will have plenty to ponder after his side slumped to a 3-0 defeat against Hamburg at the Emirates Cup.

Jose Paolo Guerrero took advantage of a glaring mistake by the Bianconeri defence to fire his side into the lead in the 19th minute before a late Ivica Olic double compounded Juve's woes.

hmmmmmmm... chel$ki looks strong

GERRARD DELIGHTED BY KEANE SIGNING

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has revealed his delight at the signing of Robbie Keane after the striker's first two games for the club.

The former Wolves, Coventry, Leeds and Inter Milan forward joined the Reds from Tottenham in a £20million deal last week.

Keane featured in Liverpool's draw with Villarreal before starting in their friendly win over Rangers on Saturday.

Gerrard believes the club's new strikeforce of Keane and Fernando Torres will be among the best in the Premier League, with the new arrival making an impression on the England international.

"As soon as we heard of the interest in Robbie, those of us who know him wanted the deal to happen," Gerrard told the News of the World.

"We know what he can add to the side and, alongside Fernando Torres, we feel we've a strikeforce to rival any in the Premier League.

"A lot of Liverpool fans see similarities to when we signed Gary McAllister in 2000. You'd hear people say how we should have signed him years ago.

"The same applies with Robbie. He probably should have been here five or six years earlier."

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez also holds the Republic of Ireland international in high regard and more so after seeing him in action against Rangers.

Keane paired up with Torres, who he is expected to partner throughout most of the upcoming season, and Benitez is pleased with his side's quality.

"Keane and Torres showed good movement and linked well with Gerrard, (Yossi) Benayoun and (Dirk) Kuyt," he told the News of the World.

"All five offensive players were very clever and showed a lot of quality.

"Keane has settled in really well and I hope we're going to continue to see these movements and goals in the future."

TORRES AND KEANE IMPRESS BENITEZ

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez declared himself pleased with the first outing of new strike force Fernando Torres and Robbie Keane after the Merseyside club cruised to a 4-0 win over Rangers at Ibrox.

Keane, who cost Liverpool £20million when he moved from Tottenham last week, linked well with the Spaniard in a first half which Liverpool bossed for long spells.

Torres gave the visitors the interval lead from close range after Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor had fumbled a long-range drive from French youngster Damien Plessis.

After both sides made five substitutions each at half-time, with Torres staying inside, 19-year-old striker David Ngog struck from the edge of the box for his first goal since signing from Paris St Germain before Yossi Benayoun made it three at the far post on the hour.

More substitutions followed before Xabi Alonso slotted the fourth from the penalty spot after Ibrox defender Kirk Broadfoot had clumsily pulled down Krisztian Nemeth in the box.

Benitez, who declined to comment on the continuing speculation about Aston Villa midfielder Gareth Barry coming to Anfield, was pleased with the way his front two led his side to an easy victory.

"Both players showed good movement and so did (Steven) Gerrard," he said.

"Dirk Kuyt and Yossi Benayoun were coming inside so I felt we had five offensive players, very clever and with quality so we were a threat all the time.

"Keane is very clever and he worked hard. He is very happy here and hopefully we will see a lot of good movement and also goals from him.

"Gerrard, Torres and Keane playing together was one of the keys to keeping possession.

"But I feel we have some good players in the team, different players with different qualities and a good mentality."

Despite the scoreline, Benitez, who also straight-batted questions about the continual booing of Keane by the home fans due to the former Spurs player being a Republic of Ireland international, insisted the Ibrox side offered a difficult challenge.

He said: "The first half was okay but in the second half they needed to go forward in front of their supporters.

"We had more space and we scored the second goal on the counter-attack.

"But from the start of the game we wanted to impress and we wanted to win.

"We worked hard, had plenty of possession and wanted to keep a high tempo with the ball.

"We scored once and had one or two problems near the end of the first half but we controlled it.

"In the second half, with the game more open, it was easier for us to keep the high tempo."
