Really thanks for the tests you did, and answer nearly all my doubt...., but still have 1 question most of them like to know.
Do you know what price they are selling, K20D & DA*200?:D

I think the k20D would be somewhere around 2k, the DA200 would be 1.6k :dunno: Just 3 more days, let's check them out at the IT Show ;)

After reading your unbiased and objective review, there is no doubt in my mind about upgrading to to a K20D. :)

Hi Fengwei,

thanks for the pics...very promising especially the 100% crops looks ...hope to see more...can request if you were to shoot again(assuming your kids are not running too wild ;)) possible to shoot the same scene with the K10D and K20D with expended dynamic range?

btw...any idea during the IT show will they allow mi to load my own SD card to the K20D and take some pics?? wanna take home some shots to analyze...

I was at Shriro just now to get one of my lens callibrated so Kevin was nice enough to let me play with the K20D and DA* 200mm for a while. Here are my first impressions.

1. The K20D just feels at home to me, as I've been using the K10D for more than a year now. Controls and handling as the same.

2. Shutter noise is more softer than the K10D.

3. Focusing is slightly faster than the K10D, on AF-S/AF-C it does haunt a bit using the DA*200 indoors. Probably not the best place to test it as the Shriro office is not brightly lit.

4. When choosing the Continous drive function, there is a Hi and Lo option, Fengwei do you know what is the difference ? I tried setting both but can't tell the difference.

5. AWB is quite accurate, definately more accurate than the K10D especially indoors.

6. The DA*200mm almost silent in focusing, but the speed is not as fast as I have hope for.

Thats all I have, the K20D and DA* 200mm will be available at the upcoming IT Show. No news on when the K200D or the other lens will be available.

Actually I've got the comparison photos taken already. Left the SD card somewhere else. Will upload the photos tomorrow :)

Now vPost/Amazon has the K20D body going for US$1,245.92!!! Buy, buy, buy quickly now that the US$ has gone lower than S$1.40
Cheaper cameras and cheaper US holidays.
Please note that the Amazon price has been creeping downwards, as is the price for other US retailers. ;)

Bro, no need to see comparison photos, played with the K20D today and it is all good. The only negative is probably the price.

No doubt about it. I know it is all good...Just wanna see how different the photos it is. The large file size and the price here is probably making me think twice to get it.;)

I think this week's IT show will help you overcome your reservations... ;)
At least you already have a K10D. I gave mine away so I'm stuck with only 6.1 megapixels. :bsmilie:
Right now I'm in two minds whether to buy a cheap used K10D or wait a little for the K20D's price to reach more affordable levels. The image quality is making me feel like doing something foolish with my credit card.

mi waiting for K200D though... kinna funny if u ask mi why i already got K10D but go for K200D... im very happy with my K10D...the pics are stunning especially with the FA limiteds as compare to my old D200... but some shots i need a tiny bit more highlight range... so with K200D hopefully i get it, 2 bodies and save some bucks for my LBA...best of both worlds...:bsmilie:

Hehe.. you kenna poison liao after playing with it today ;p

Hi Fengwei
Can you elaborate on the improved WB?
I noticed on the K100D, the WB is generally more accurate when I set to autopict instead of "Program" mode but overall, when lighting is orangy, shots come out very reddish.
Congrats to you..must be very painful to have the camera but no time to test it more! ;)
Cheers

Quite true.:bsmilie: I have the K10D and happy with it, I'm in no hurry to get so can wait a while more. I hope I don't do something foolish with the plastic card also.:bsmilie:

 how can buying a Pentax product be considered "something foolish", it should be commended for being a wise choice! Go forth, my padawans, and slide those credit cards quick...;)
Now if you were paying through your nose for the c-empire's products, that's another matter:bsmilie:

BTW, Fengwei indicated the WB is better. I am wondering if the same enhancements is available on the K200D, i.e. he K200D is a better camera than the K10D but not as good as the K20D...logical?

airconvent, the WB of the K20D (and I am sure the K200D too) is miles ahead of the K100D. The camera can handle incandescent lighting and high ISO very well. I took this shot today and the Auto WB is spot on. Took a similar shot at ISO 1600 and it didn't look like there was any change in quality. Simply put the image quality is superb to my old eyes.

thanks dennis. the camera looks good. Looks like i will benefit from the improved WB accuracy because that's one of my main problems (besides photos being out of focus!) For comparison, can you take the same image using the K100D? that way we can gauge the difference...
thanks :)
