Sim Lim Square salespeople abusive when I did not want to buy camera they were pushing
THE letter, 'Salespeople at Sim Lim need to take a few lessons in good manners and common decency' (Online forum, Jan 19), struck a chord with me.
I remember getting the cold shoulder treatment in Sim Lim Square when I was shopping for my digital camera three years ago.
As a serious buyer, I was looking for cameras that were of the best bargain. After going to Funan IT Mall, I decided to make a trip down to Sim Lim Square to check out their prices. However, the service level displayed by staff in Sim Lim Square left much to be desired.
I have thought that I have found the best bargain camera in one of the stores at Level 1 but was told that the product was unavailable after I confirmed my order with the shop. The shop owner tried to recommend me another camera but I was adamant about it, as the product he recommended was not up to my expectations. When I decided to leave, he screamed at me and told me he didn't want my business.
I decided to go for the next better-priced camera in a shop on Level 2. However, the sales personnel were not willing to sell the camera to me. They gave me the cold shoulder and did not want to serve me. One of them even scolded me in Hokkien and said that I was stingy. He said that if I had no money, I should not buy. Fortunately, I understood what he said and decided to go off without any further confrontation with them.
Eventually, I bought my camera from Funan IT Mall. The shop staff had a much better service attitude and professionalism, as compared to those at Sim Lim Square.
