saw this on ST online forum. I am NOT the writer of this letter :)

Sim Lim Square salespeople abusive when I did not want to buy camera they were pushing
THE letter, 'Salespeople at Sim Lim need to take a few lessons in good manners and common decency' (Online forum, Jan 19), struck a chord with me.

I remember getting the cold shoulder treatment in Sim Lim Square when I was shopping for my digital camera three years ago.

As a serious buyer, I was looking for cameras that were of the best bargain. After going to Funan IT Mall, I decided to make a trip down to Sim Lim Square to check out their prices. However, the service level displayed by staff in Sim Lim Square left much to be desired.

I have thought that I have found the best bargain camera in one of the stores at Level 1 but was told that the product was unavailable after I confirmed my order with the shop. The shop owner tried to recommend me another camera but I was adamant about it, as the product he recommended was not up to my expectations. When I decided to leave, he screamed at me and told me he didn't want my business.

I decided to go for the next better-priced camera in a shop on Level 2. However, the sales personnel were not willing to sell the camera to me. They gave me the cold shoulder and did not want to serve me. One of them even scolded me in Hokkien and said that I was stingy. He said that if I had no money, I should not buy. Fortunately, I understood what he said and decided to go off without any further confrontation with them.

Eventually, I bought my camera from Funan IT Mall. The shop staff had a much better service attitude and professionalism, as compared to those at Sim Lim Square.

this customer should buy camera from MS color @ AMK !

Lords @ Lucky Plaza, Tk Foto @ Shaw Towers Beach Rd, CP @ Peninsula Plaza and John3:16 @ Funan all have better service.

Sim Lim Square is definately not a place for window-shopping ....... decide on some models and set the prices ahead of your trip to SLQ .... go there only for the kill :dunno:
it always work for me.

Not all the stores there are that bad and I personally patronize the place frequently and had never encountered anything unpleasant. However, as mentioned above, always do your homework and find out all you can about the products you want to buy and only go to SLS to get what you want if you can bargain a cheaper price there.

how good's the service at lords and john compared to cp?

i had some bad experience at SLS... i was asking how much was the camera, the guy said "are you just asking or you want to buy??".... i think they like to serve the ang mohs...

it's because they can chop the ang mohs and the same can't be applied to us (coz we already know the price before hand)... and we like to haggle which they don't like.

An advice I always give to my overseas friends visiting Singapore:

Two things to avoid if you don't want to get stiffed:

1. The Four Floors of Wh*res at Orchard Towers (choose wrongly, and you literally will get stiffed)

2. The Three Lower Floors (polite version) of Sim Lim Square.

You should say "If I don't want to buy why would I ask?"

Just point to the small black hole on your bag and wave your mediacorp badge to him. That should scare him, but must stand near security guard one hor, and got friends to back you up in case he tried to attack you.

so call the "best price" that u thought is a below cost price they always use this method when u know r asking the price they like ang moh cause they can cut throat them n will not come back n complain they feel wasting their time to serve u where they can make much more from the ang moh that why they give u cold shoulder

Don't know about Lords, but the service at John blew me away the first time. Now I'm a regular.

Yes, service at John is simply unbelievable :thumbsup::thumbsup: Actually will feel paiseh if not buying anything. Unfortunately, the waiting time can sometimes be unbelievable too... I used to frequent the shop too until I changed job.
