i think there shld be a new law similar to air rage and shld be threated as a serious criminal offence for her part on assulting the bus driver when he was driving. It could have lead to a serious accident.
Appears to support what the SBS says all the time.
he explained that he had to follow company procedure to retain expired concession cards.
Once again, I state the legal position (as confirmed by SBS themselves - albeit in a very roundabout and non-commital way), that if a customer refuses to hand over their card, there is NOTHING that the bus captain can do. If SBS wishes to, they can institute expensive legal proceedings to enforce their CIVIL rights.
In fact, it is even possible that the bus captain, if retaining the card even with the express refusal of the customer, can be liable for theft/robbery.
SBS only has a civil and contractual right, not an absolute legal right.
An example : if A buys goods from B, A is contractually liable to B to pay for the goods. However, B has no right to confiscate A's wallet just to satisfy his debt.
she was prolly mis using the concession rights of the card she was using...
the card belongs to EZL, not the customer. the customer paid for use of the ez link card, not ownership of the card. there is no theft or robbery involved when the bus captain, an employee of EZL, retains the card with good reason, as stated in the terms and conditions of the ezlink card when it is issued to the customer.
actually, the concession thing doesn't work anymore after it expires. then after it expires, the card basically acts like a normal adult card. after a certain timeframe, the card then really expires, or rendered unusable. at least it works like that on the students' card. i could still use it like a normal adult card(the concession cancelled itself after 1 jan 2007). during june, it then became totally unusable(emits the 5 beeps sound).
Agree with you totally man. I mean if I am the bus driver and my boss said this is the rules, so follow it. I will confiscate the expired concession cards as I am working with SBS.but seriously that doesnt justify her outragous behavoir. i mean look, i'm just a bus driver, doing my job, enforcing regulations which my boss told me to do. happily doing what i'm doing, ferrying people to their destinations. and here comes these 2 comuters. i do what i'm suppose to do. be patient with them. explain over and over again. and what! you try to snatch the thing away from me. scratch me till i bleed, rip my pocket off. like wtf...
i salute the bus driver for his patience man. if i were to be in his shoes, i would have sent the 2 idiots flying out from my bus.
is this how some of us singaporeans are? arrogant self righteous *******s/bitches. seriously..

the lady should be glad that the driver didn't retaliate when she attacked him
are you saying that notwithstanding that even if the terms of the issuance of the card clearly states that the card remains the property of SBS at all times and that SBS has the right to retain it,
these are civil rights which sbs must go thru court action to enforce?
do u hv any interest in this case?
What SBS has done in many of its public letters, is to give the imperssion that it has an absolute right to retain the cards, when it is in fact, just a civil right. I'll post a chain of letters published in the Today newspaper later this Monday if anyone is interested - it is all in the office.
