Singapore My Home?

I'm a australian that moved to Singapore 8 years ago with work. Original plan was only to stay 12-18 months. For the first 5 years, I kept saying "Next year I'll go back to Sydney". I've now given up trying to plan to return to australia, so I'd say, yep, Singapore is my home now.

I do think one day I'll return to Australia. Maybe to retire, and thats a long way off!!

Australia is a nice place to retire.

So is New Zealand.

Really love the pace of life, serenity and atmosphere/air there.. less humid, cleaner, fresher air.

I surf Singapore photo forum, I read Singapore's channelnewasia.com, I eat Singapore foods,
I go to Singapore for holidays, I buy camera gear from Singapore shops, I chat to Singapore girls in the chat site, I dream about Singapore etc.

But I live in Sydney. Can I consider Singapore also as my home?

cant agree more ... when in sg, we complain this, complain that. im guilty of complaining sometimes.. but whenever i'm overseas, i prefer to be back home.... just the familiarity around...

when we kpkb that we have to wait abit more for a bus to come , think have to go european countries when we have to wait 45mins for a bus sometimes, and shivering from coldness outside while waiting, then we know we're blessed here :bsmilie:

Singapore is a great country to live in ! They are many good things here. In fact, I feel very fortunate to be here.

To me, it would be the BEST COUNTRY in the world if : The freedom of expression would be complete like in Europe.

A sign of that is that Singapore ranks very low (146 over 168 countries) in terms of press freedom according to Reporters without Frontiers.

For the Rest, I think Singapore is a great country. :thumbsup: What is above, is the only thing that I miss once in a while. Like in this very forum being under the same rules/laws. I wish discussion could go a bit deeper than the usual (without falling into some unnecessary language).

Would I stay here for ever? I do not plan to! It is not specialy linked to SG but my wife is from South America and I am from Europe. In the end of the day, little holds us here, if it would not be my job and the quality of life in SG.

when u have to bear the cold for mths u will think twice... haha.. eventhough i love the cold weather now, it is not fun to stay outside especially when the cold wind blows :bsmilie:

What is IPPT?
Sounds like a tax, nobody likes taxes

Contrary to the rubbish u'd juz heard (I hope not internalised!) IPPT is a compulsory physical fitness test comprising of a series of exercises (like running, jumping, pull-ups, sprints) to test ur physical fitness which everyone in our Armed Forces (regulars, reservist and conscripts) have to undergo unless they have specific medical conditions that forbids them from carrying out this test.

Ok.. since national day is just round the corner... just wanna find out how many of us here really treat singapore like home... if ever u have a free choice to move to another country or continent... would you? Does not matter what age you are... or what your job is... assuming that all else remains constant....or ideal...

I do see singapore as my home in many ways... however I cannot see myself living here till the day i die.... singapre simply saps the energy from me... the lifestlye here is too demanding monetary as well as mentally...

How about you?

Well, if I dun intend to get a car in 3yrs time (with the circle line completed and the loads from the main NSEW line had been eased), I'll yearn to travel the world.

Been harbouring dreams of settling down in another land for my retirement where I'll juz maybe grow veggies, tender to my own farm and stuff. Just a small hectare of land enuff for a nice house and a veggie farm.

Of cos, I'll fight with my last breath to croak here and live in a 4 by 4 niche in Singapore for sure. Not elsewhere.

I think wherever you go to live, each place has it own quirks, differences and problems.

It is up to the individual to make the best of it and enjoy what we have. Contentment is being happy with whatever little we have and being grateful for it. It's about doing our best no matter what, giving more than receiving, sacrificing more than demanding.

I have worked in Australia before and visited many countries too but right now, Singapore is my home and I am proud of it. I am thoroughly grateful that I can go get my char kway teow, chicken rice, chow fan, etc any time. I am glad that my children can travel to and from school and other places safely without fear for their safety. And many, many other reasons which may be too much for this forum.
