Well, you're young so I shall be abit less acid tongued. Firstly, it's very easy to get along with ppl even like eiks: Just be yourself and if you want to engage in an intellectual debate, THINK before you post. If there is reason I don't see why you would end up in cross hairs.

To Satay 16, I read what you wrote in response to my question before you deleted it.

so this is where the problem is, what is the scope of the "photographers" we are saying here? Are we talking about those whom are already photographers, or are we refering to those who have the potential to be a good photographer?
If we take the first meaning, then i say more(not all) men are better photographers, reason being that there IS already more men photographers, both good and bad.
If we take the second, then i can't say anything, because i can't judge someone if they did not show what they can do. It becomes all speculation.
But with the advancement of technology, everybody can be a photographer with their handphone at hand, so.......aiyah, so confusing. maybe we should stick to the 2nd part of the statment, about females being subjects.

Please, don't feel offended, I hope this little discussion could let us understand both sexes better, and we could have more respect for the opposite sex. Let's accept the fact that there are differences between the sexes, in terms of "technical specifications; hardware and software", and most importantly we must learn to respect these differences, not use these differences to put the opposite sex down. So let's not say men do not listen and women are made of water.
Each sex has its roles to play, let me give you an example: when buying a car, usually the ladies will let the guy call the shot after she states her piece. When at jewelry shop, usually the ladies have the final say right?
Today the haze is bad, no outing allowed by my lady, so typing this posting.
You know why I put up this topic?
We had a big fight recently, over which camera to buy.
I wanted a SLR, and she wanted the slimmest PnS. She is the one who told me SLR too heavy and complicated. By the way, those are the two reasons why I wanted a SLR. Being a gentleman, I burnt my pocket, I ended up buying both DSLR and the lightest PnS.
I shoot her with a SLR and she shoots me with PnS. Despite the entire cross shooting, we are very happy.
Now if you say girls don't like to be in front of the camera, I will shoot you in the face.
You know, when I say lets do some casual shoot, she will be the first one to reach for the closet and the dressing table. Me, messy hair, half naked with a boxer. She pretty like a doll.
That is why, I say ladies are better subject, with colorful make up and all those wonderful hairdos and matching dresses. The ladies I come across will naturally pose for the camera, no need to teach or tell them one.:bsmilie: They know how to twist here, turn there, keep this, expose that. So I will say ladies are camera best friend, not all but also not very few.
Next, let's talk about curves. If I give you a box with four wheels, will you want to drive it?:think:
You know I once started a war, when I say Men are better drivers and women are even better drivers because they can drive a man up the wall. This statement is sexist, and I have refrain from making such statement.:nono:even I feel it is very true, sometimes.

yes you are right to say men and woman do approach photography differently.
As a general statement men tend to be more technical, woman more passionate, focused on the subject.
The best photographers (again in general, leaving art photography aside) are those that can do both. Period. Create technically sound pictures that are emotionally connected with the subject.
I really love the work and concerns articulated but female photojournalists, its a personal opinion but they do have the access and genuine empathy for the subject that I have seen in few male photogs. As a guy i sometimes wish i could connect with the people i shoot in that way too.
I can list names if you like. Don't just look at your friends and say, look at pictures, look at people's work, look a photography in terms of its history and globally too. There's loads to learn

You are very right. There are very good female photographers out there, churning out excellent work piece. No doubt about that.
If you have realised, I did not make any specific remark. I am not stating Men are the best photographer, my statement so far is by large (using words like "could be" "Generally"). Thereby giving us more room for discussion.
Maybe at the end of the discussion, we come to realise that men and women are built and engineered differently, each gender has its specific tasks. So we will not make meaningless statement like, why girls do not need to serve NS, and Boys have to. You want equal treatment hor then serve NS lah.
Guy, do you agree that it is man's duty to protect our girls and family?
If the answer is yes, can I call you a male chauvinist for thinking so? Why not let the girls do the job?

oh well, nvm:bsmilie: . anyway, there ARE both good photographers from both gender, but i believe when talking in terms of quantity, in that group of photographers we consider as "good", there are more men. I mean just by judging CS alone, there is already more males inside. So let's assume that if 20% of the female photographers are good and 10% of the male photographers are good, in nominal terms, there are still more men photographers that are good.
in conclusion, it is back to my old statement:very hard to compare, it all depends on your yardstick of measurement. if we talk in percentage, it is much harder to see. and if we add "potential" to it, it goes even crazier(potential meaning those who can make good photographers but aren't interested in photography.)
Sorrie to know that u had a big fight recently. Frankly, i'm not a flamer, an activist nor someone who wants to make a name here. Jus put off by the "so call" egos of some guys and in fact and embarressed to be associated with them.
I do not understand the fact why guys want everything to be big...big cars, big horsepower, big *oobs, big *icks and in photography, big cameras, big flash, big lens no wonder they ended up with big egos too..
Now that shot in the face was unnecessary cos the girls i know are the exact opposite. They hate makeup and only wears them when its necessary and do not realli care abt how others see them. They also do not know how to twist here, turn there, keep this and certainly not expose. So to me, cameras are not girls best friend.
talking about cars, let me offer u wat i think... honda accords are still boxy so is the BMW 7 series, corolla has been replaced by a boxy altis so does the new BMW 5 series, Landrover is boxy to start and boxy till now, and the design of all cars began with a box with 4 wheels. If u give me a box with four wheels and pays the coe, taxes and fuel, i will drive (i do have a licence so no worries). There are people who appreciate the classics like the VW camper van (boxy), VW golf gti MK I (also boxy, but a bloodly ride, minus the spongy brakes), old BMW 6 series (also boxy, yes the 6 series is nothing new), the list goes on...
I guess u din learn from the past.. oh well, some things jus never change..
