CS "critics" suck?

i always believe that one should be appreciative of others spending their time and effort in giving you comments so that you can improve and reflect on what you have done.

and yes. americans do say you "suck" or your works "sucks", and just to share with you all an experience i had with a european client. ( i got poked in that backside big time for that... but in the end.. lesson learnt, and lucky got a friend to support and help)

Client: Glenn.. i want to say to you that i am not angry with you. But i am angry with your work you have given me.

Me: Mr J*******, yes i do understand what you mean, but under those circumstances, i've got no choice but to resort to these solutions to produce such a result.

Client: These works is just not acceptable. And remember Glenn, I am not angry with you, i am angry with the works thats all. I have nothing against you. but the works only.

Nevertheless, we live in a multi racial society, and most of us are adapted to the traditional asian cultures. so words like sucks or etc etc. most of us will take it personally and sometimes we do tend to get over sensitive about it. i am also one who sometimes takes things a little too personal too.

So maybe certain people can take your comments, while certain people can't. After all. 1 person's work cannot truely satisfy the whole world. There will definately be people who will oppose, disregard you and your works..

sometimes, ang mohs talk in a very weird manner, they like to "shoot" u indirectly, and when they do that, its too late liao, they change topic already....

Saying it sux or anything else for that matter is ok, in my opinion... the real issue is to add the WHY it sux...

Using crass language simply just reflects on the person's character (which he or she may not be bothered about). So if he can dish it, you can take it too... cos it doesn't hurt you, unless the comment is "YOU SUCK"...

"Suck" like "Cream Pie" has changed the life of a CSer. It has unlearned what 15 odd years of prudish English education has taught him.

We can't go back to the innocent past. We won't be able to keep a straight face when we order cream pies in a cake shop. When someone shows us a bad photo, "Suck" will crawl up our throats before our mouths form a word.

This is the way the west has won the little red dot. Yes we must move on. But what's after "suck" and "Cream Pie"? I hope we are well equipped to face an uncertain future. A future of self-doubt and the double meanings of a twisted language.

IMHO, it is ok to tell someone his pics is not good. But do it kindly with nice words. I have seen some people who can really take good pics but simply lousy with words.

We all love the hobby...keep it so...

people would deserve more constructive comments ?when one post images on the net for comments, you shouldnt expect too much from people. cause i can put it in this way. i do not owe you my time nor my comments.believe me. if you have seen the more sharp tongued ones around. i believe they do not even give 2 hoots to who you are, let alone your pics, esp when they hear that you are just a amatuer or something.... and trust me, theres pple like them around.my point. get on with life. do not expect too much as our dear fellow csers do not owe anyone here or the forum a explaination to whether your photo is good or not, but one should appreciate others when the spend time analysing your photo and giving you comments to improve or reflect.so well... if one wishes to get constructive comments, go directly face to face with someone who have experience in judging, or even the full time professionals. i am sure they are willing to help if u can treat them in exchange for their time and comments.

For ppl like these, photography is nothing more than an ego trip.

U can easily spot ppl like these and I had spotted at least 1 in my 2yrs of serious photography.

So, do ppl like these deserve constructive criticism at all since they can't even be bothered to listen what u wanna say?

Just leave the other photo galleries as a means of people to "show off" their work. Nothing wrong with that. Go to the Critique Corner if one really need to receive/give critique(s).

Photography is painting with lights ... Maybe, your planet, it's not artistic and creative, but last heard here on earth, photography is artistic, creative, and requires learned skills, to compose, to focus, to expose and to create.
