Description:
Selling Nikkor 28-105mm F3.5-4.5 AF-D with 1:2 Micro capabilities (same as 55mm micro lens), but able to zoom and use micro over a wider range of focal lengths.
The lens is in generally good exterior condition, with minor marks. Glass is clean and free from fungus. This was from Japan.
Zoom is smooth, MF is smooth, aperture blades are snappy and work fine.
READ: This copy has a problem with the MAIN FPC and have checked with Nikon Service Centre they will not be able to repair this as parts no longer available. However, when used for macro photography, you're not likely to use AF anyway (since the focusing is so fine), so I have found this is not much of a problem for that particular use. This FPC issue means the camera will not recognise the lens as a Nikkor lens, and you have to use manual exposure/aperture priority (which, again, is not as much of a problem for Macro, which isn't like sports etc, though you have to set the aperture using the aperture ring). People using D7000 and above can use non-CPU data setting in camera to get full colour matrix metering.
In summary:

1) Cannot electronically 'talk' to camera to set aperture, full colour matrix metering etc
2) No AF
PROS
1) Basic metering works fine, can set aperture using the aperture ring
2) Can MF the lens, esp usable for macro/close up work
3) Everything else about the glass etc is fine, and going for fairly cheap
4) If you have a D7000 and above, you can use non-CPU data to get full colour matrix metering again
