I have been using this kit lens for the first 3 years and stored in the dehumidifier box for the remaining 1.5 years.
A few strands of dust has entered the lens and noticeable. But nothing to worry about as it does not affect the picture quality or the operations. The dust under the lens could be removed by paying a visit to Canon Service Centre for a clean up. More importantly, there is no fungus - the lens goes into the dehumidifier box immediately after use. This lens should go on for another few years without trouble.
This lens works well for beginners in DSLR. It is sharp and easy to use. Zoom, focus and click - picture perfect all the time.
