woah... interesting read. all the more interesting that they can't really reproduce the process that the French guy used.
 

Wouldn't it be funny (or sad) if someone (maybe the cleaning lade) at the lab where the pewter (silver?) plate is being tested suddenly said "Hmmm... what a nice plate but looks a bit dirty, i try to wash it off with detergent". ;p
