Nice series, more please :)

campoes | Thanks for the encouragement campoes. Will do.

Today is the orientation day at University of British Columbia, they call it "Imagine UBC". No classes, just a lot of booths introducing various clubs, activities, services (banking, cellphone, etc.), and giving away freebies. There are also tours and the pep rally (welcome speeches, cheering, and jeering). One of my favourite booths - when people hit the target with a ball, the guy falls into the tank.

Interesting pics, thanks for sharing.
How's the weather in Vancouver? I heard from my friend there are lots of Asians, especially Indians and Chinese in the city. Must be a very multi-cultural city..

engta | Hey thanks for stopping by. Weather here is good most of the time (rains quite a bit though and it can get quite gloomy). It is a very multi-cultural city indeed, Asians are definitely a visible minority (interestingly enough, when people here mention Asian, they usually mean Chinese/Korean/Japanese, not the Indians). The multiculturalism can be easily seen from the variety of restaurants here (esp. sushi joints...mmm sushi).

Anyway I was coming back from a park in North Vancouver and stumbled across a Taiwanfest in downtown (there was a Japanese festival earlier). This singer's quirky attire caught my attention, but it was the band's catchy rock/country music that won me over.

Cool stuff! Any pics of human language residents in Vancouver? ;p

engta | Later la...

This weekend I witnessed a latte art competition in Vancouver Public Library downtown. Somehow I wasn't chased away by the security/organizing committee so I managed to snap a few shots.

There were quite a few Japanese contestants. Aki Tokuhara (hope my image is sharp enough for you to see her name ;p) was one of the best etchers on that day

This matcha latte was her entry. The taste was not bad.

Another picture that I quite like from orientations in UBC. Basically it is Dance Club members in the university trying to promote their club. Tried some unusual post-processing (to me) but I am not sure if it works.

Just dance, gonna be ok

Vancouver is lovely! Miss the place. Btw #9 the fireworks mind sharing thesetting you take at?

how long was the shutter speed for #8?

nitewalk | #9 settings are ISO 200, f/13, 5s. Vancouver is a gorgeous place, wish I didn't have to spend so much time at/on school.

North Korean club. Eye-catching acronym

Kind of curious, how gorgeous is Vancouver? The city, people, architecture, weather...? ;)

As a Vancouverite it's fitting that my first post is about Vancouver. I was going to post some of my snapshots but then I remembered a youtube video that a couple of brothers made as hommage to our fair city for the Winter Oympics which took placed earlier this year. This video does an exceptional job of showcasing Vancouver in its full glory. It must be viewed in HD to appreciate the work that went into producing the timelapse video. I believed they used a Nikon D700 to capture the images.

Thanks for sharing, dohboy. A very beautiful video of a beautiful city indeed.

Hey, you're welcome. Looks like you're into birding, you might want to head up to Brackendale between mid December to mid January. It has one of the highest concentrations of bald eagles anywhere in the world.

dohboy | I don't/can't drive, so it would be tricky to go there. But I might ask around when I am free. Thanks for the tips.

The Fairmont Hotel in downtown Vancouver. It looks like a throne if you look at it from a certain angle.

The combination of rainy weathers and schoolwork meant that there is less time to go photoshooting now. However I went to Grouse Mountain again recently and there are a few pictures to share.

They have a bear shelter up the mountain with two Grizzly Bears.

It's a pretty strenuous hike for the average people. A 2.9 km trail with an elevation of 853m. The hike can take from 45 minutes to 3 hours depending on your fitness (but average for first-timers is 2 hours).

Logrolling. I am quite impressed - because the temperature is probably 15C or lower on the top and they don't seem to be too cold even after falling into the water several times.
