if you only have $1000 +
and you want to have just one lens to carry around...

would u get a 28-135 mm f3.5/5.6 IS USM or a 28-200 mm f3.5-5.6 USM ?
Or any other all rounder lens around this range ? :dunno:

28-300L IS....the 1000 bucks pay for the first installment. ;p

Hmm..Just my own opinion...If there is such a constriant, I think i will use a smaller digicam instead.Eg; Panasonic Z10 or Canon S1.

As a 300D user, I'd suggest that you take a look at the Sigma 18-125mm ...

However, you will also need the question first ... what is/are the theme(s) which you are more likely to work on ... street, portriature, landscape, macro, wild life etc etc ...

Just my 2 stops.

if there is only one lens to buy, no need 1k, a messy $150 will do for me, 50mm 1.8 or if you are feeling rich $400-$500++ for the 1.4f. almost 50% of my shots use the 50mm lens.

;)

thanks guys... hmm... i suppose there is no particular theme.. was thinking if there are days u dun feel like bringing so many lenses out, which lens do u think will serve as a all purpose kind... I guess likely will be street, potrait and landscape....

17-40/4L, or the Sigma 12-24 or 15-30.

And a 50/1.8.

If there are only 2 choices, 28-135mm f3.5/5.6 IS USM or 28-200m f3.5-5.6 USM, I would choose the 28-135mm.

The other choice of 28-200, at the 200mm end, the max aperture is f5.6, and you normally will step down 1 or 2 stops to get good quality, that would mean 200mm f8 or about that. Not very convenient and defect the purpose of carry a zoom.

Frankly, depends mostly on the body you're using? If digital, I'd pay a bit more for the 17-40L instead. Well that's just me alone. If film user, the 28-135 IS would be fine.

Sh*t, I'm addicted to constant apertures. Hahaha :bsmilie:

depends on what lens u want. ie what range? what to shoot?

tamron 24-135mm

In that case, just buy a P&S digicam with 10xOptical zoom lor. Its ultra portable so you can bring it around anytime, esp when you dont feel like carrying so much stuff around. The range covered is sufficient for most uses you specified. It fits well in your budget too.

is weight a concern? I've decided on the 24-85 as an all purpose lens. The range is quite good on the 300D and focussing is fast and colours fantastic. For wider angles, I just slap on a wide-angle converter in front.
