How much does it cost to calbrate a lens with the body?
Will Canon do it with no cost if it's under warranty?

thanx.
no.Calibration is your choice.Unless the lens is found to have some calibration fault.:)

What do u mean after calibration? Does it matter which body u use it on?

my 24-70 was backfocusing badly when i got it. now its tack sharp after canon calibrated it...twice :p

Looks like quite a number Clubsnappers listed the 17-40 and 85 lenses as their top 3.

I had used an assortment of Canon, Tamron, Sigma and Tokina lenses, among which the following were taken out from my dry cabi most of the time:

Canon 17-40 L
(my first L which I bring for all occasions)

Canon 85 F1.8
(very good for available light & portraits)

Tokina 100 F2.8 macro
(very sharp for portraits; good for macro with extension tubes due to its limited 1:2 mag.)

I had very good pictures from Sigma 70-200 F2.8. Didn't put it within my top 3 lenses because it had not been used that often (partly due to weight and the events I covered).

85mm f1.8-
100mm f2.8-
17-40mm f4L -
70-300mm f4-5.6 IS -
these are my lens dat r sharp hehehe :bsmilie:

If theres nothing wrong with your lens then obviously theres no need to calibrate lah. ;p

if you are sure your focusing is spot on but the subject still out of focus, do a focus test. if confirm got focus problem then send in for calibration.

1. 135mm F2.0L (Best portrait lens I know - subject real sharp with background blurred)
2. 50mm F1.4 (Brilliant lens even in low light. Aperture is so big that I have to be careful that the subject's eyes are sharp - tendency to get nose sharper than the eyes... yes, its that sensitive at F1.4...)
3. 24mm F2.8 (Love this lens to death... brilliant colours for indoor flash photography)

Used the 17-35mm F2.8L, the 28-70mm F2.8L, the 35-350mm F4.0 - F5.6L and the 80-200mm F2.8L lenses before... IMHO, they are superb lenses but fall short to the prime lenses mentioned.
