Hi all,

This might sound noob but would like to find out for Nikkor range of lenses, is it only the DX lenses that are solely developed for 1.5x crop while the other range of lenses can be used on 35mm/ FF?

Thanks in advance for your replies

all lenses can be used on DX cameras and fx cameras

just that DX lens will give you serious vignetting on FX cameras

Thanks Ortega for your prompt reply. But how about 3rd party lenses (ie Tamron 17-50mm f2.8)?

Since Nikkor DX lenses are dedicated lenses for 1.5x crop bodies, are the any indication to say if such lenses are developed solely for DX bodys and would cause vignetting on FX?

there is a list in the pricelist of the DX lenses that Nikon has. for third party I'm not sure.

tamron 17-50mm is a dx lens

Dun tink you are in line with the topic here,

We are talking about vignetting caused by some lenses such as the DX lenses as they are developed solely for DX purposed, therefore serious vignetting will be evident.

Now, my question would be if are there any 3rd party lenses which are also solely developed for the cropped bodies, hence causing vignetting like the DX lenses on FX bodies.

this sounds like real trouble for me... just got a 17-50mm f2.8 and was hoping that it could be used on a 35mm body...

thats sad to hear maybe you could have 2 bodies 1 for dx 1 for fx? and the tamron 17-50mm mount onto the dx body?

tamron 17-50mm is a dx lens

yes my test image of the DX lens is done with a tamron 17-50 f2.8
so that is what you will get if you use it on a FX camera

yes there are indications that it is a lens for cropped sensors,
for nikon there is a "DX" in the name of the lens

So would there be any indications on these 3rd party lenses to say that they are dedicated cropped body lenses and would cause vignetting on 35mm/FX/FF bodies?

if you are looking for a lens which would not cause vignetting on a ff body u may consider 24-70mm 2.8 , 28-70mm 2.8 , 17-35mm 2.8
