It makes you look more pro.

hi there im new to DSLRs and this forum =). ive got my dslr for a week now and very happy with it. just a quick question what are thoose huge lens hoods i see people using? thanks.:)

wow... now i really feel the pinch of the cumbersome-ness of a lens hood, since it cant really fit into my Lowepro Rezo 140AW... Been hanging it out on the bag clip there... but kinda worried later someone sit onto it or something.. hahaa.. say are there smaller camera bag models (body + 2 lens + flash) that have a "lens hood compartment" inside?

Brought my Camera today, and the len box came with a lens hood, and the sale-man at cathay told me it block reflections.

You can use any compartment as a "lens hood compartment"...it just has to be big enough..

Just get those lens hood that can be attach the reverse way for storage:)

Always curious about this - which hood cannot be reverse mounted? So far, all my hoods can be reverse mounted (4 Canons, 1 Tamron). The only one that is not practical for reverse mounting and storage is the one on my ultrawide, because the diameter is too big to fit into my bag.

What lens hood can i use for my 50mm f/1.8 II? other than ES-62, the original canon hood. are there others?

Most modern lens hood are bayonet mount i.e. you attach the hood to your lens just like you attach your lens to your body...align the dots on the hood and lens and give a quarter twist to secure.

The only lens that I can think of that does not use bayonet mounting is a third-party lens hood for 50mm lens. Usually threaded to the front of the lens but the hood is made of rubber so you can fold it backwards before putting it back into your camera bag.

Pretty much only that if you want 100% fool-proof, no vignetting.
