It means, the technician will re-code it such that the dead sensor' surrounding pixels will help to fill in for the dead point.

Imagine a honeycomb which has a fautly centre portion, the surrounding ones has to fill in for it.

so it means you actually have a dead pixel on the sensor? using the cam's software to so called interpolate out to replace the dead pixel?

Basically puttig in a bogus (predetermined) out of range value on "the bad pixel" on to a "bad pixels record position" that will enable the processeor to detect it as a bad pixel and makes the image processor "fill-in" that bit based on its neighbouring pixels.
