In summary, most digital slr have a UV protective layer built-in, and the sensor is not as susceptible to UV as film. Thus there should not be any discernable differences between using a UV or clear filter, especially in equatorial, sea-level Singapore where the UV level is considered relatively low. Clear protectors are supposed to be cheaper than UV filters, but doesn't appear to be as common.
I prefer no filter, except when going to sandy areas (i.e. coastal).
