The Black Kite or Milvus migrans, a medium-sized bird of prey, is one of the most numerous species of raptor in the world. This species populates many regions that spans Asia, Australia, Africa and Europe.

Surviving in the wilds as a raptor means it is imperative for a juvenile kite to master the art of grabbing its prey with its talons. This is exactly what this juvenile is doing when I was observing its behavior from a hide nearby.

Beneath its talon, a piece of dried mud. Young kites such as this one use stationary objects to hone their skills in grabbing with its talon

BUT ... somehow, things tend get a little more complicated when it involves exuberant juveniles.

Not wanting to be left out, another juvenile kite decides to "participate" in this practice session by sneering off the original owner.

Raise your hands! Er, I mean, wings. Being larger helps to intimidate the lesser ones in a brawl.

Well, it seems that the original owner isn't exactly an easy target.

BACK OFF! Being larger doesn't necessarily mean you get the cake

A fight is unavoidable. Both raptors hurled themselves at each other in a contest of might.

A show of ferocity

... and a close encounter

Untamed, wild and ferocious.

Goodness! What an excellent series! The kites look just like the fighting cocks (roosters) people usually pit against each other back home.
