I am looking for a tripod for traveling in Europe during Autumn. Certainly has to be light and durable as I will be carrying that silly thing where ever I go.

Can anyone recommend me a model?

Alot depends on your personal budget as well.

The higher end makers such as Gitzo offers compact light and sturdy setups at a higher tag.

Do factor in the price of a ( good ) ballhead to complement the tripod

if I budget 500 for both (tripod + head), would I be able to get a decent one?

Ss long as it is stable for ur setup it is good.

I am not too well versed in the other makes. I myself got a Velbon CF tripod and a Markins head. Maybe others can chip in options within the budget stated. There are several older threads discussing about tripods as well.

You can visit Cathay Peninsular to check out their big range of Manfrottos , Gitzos to see which one fits ur budget and ur requirements. They sell ball heads as well. Of course always compare a few shops before buying la.
