Hence the insurance. Anyway, if you get a hard case, it's not easy to tell that it's a camera bag because a good deal of hard cases look just like your typical travelling cases. Personally I haven't had any of my travelling cases stolen before, so what makes you think people can tell that your particular case contains expensive equipment and they will take it? If you label your case "camera equipment" then off course you're asking for it. It's extremely unlikely that people will do so in the first place because of the risk involved. If you're really THAT paranoid, then practise what we're known for, kiasuism. Sprint to the baggage collection area as soon as you get off the plane and make sure you're the first one there. An alternative is to pack your camera hardcase in a incongruous brown cardboard box so it looks like fruits or something.
If I go on holiday I would still bring the same equipment as before, there's simply no sense getting paranoid over this whole issue. Just insure it. If you really don't feel safe, the camera will be perfectly safe in your dry box, not capturing images. In fact, if you never take it out, it will remain safe from all manner of scratches, dust, moisture, dents, knocks. What's more, your shutter count doesn't increase, so the shutter stays spanking new! Hurray! Get a small PnS for holidays.
