Total Noob comparing 2nd Hand with EOS 1000D & D60

Hi,

I'm a complete idiot with DSLRs but looking to move on from the P&S ranks (as I just lost my 2 months old P&S).

Honestly, I can't be sure if I'm ready for a DSLR but I definitely want to hone my photography skills a bit.

I do not have a huge budget thus, I'm looking at the followiing:

The classic war of EOS 1000D vs Nikon D60.

Im also considering a Canon EOS 400D (2nd hand) going for body only at $500 ish. (warranty available)

Is the 2nd option viable ? What lenses should I get then ?

Any help is much appreciated.

The classic war of EOS 1000D vs Nikon D60.

Comparing the 1000D & D60, I would recommend 1000D as it have a wider range of compatible lens (with AF) and it have LV similar to those in PnS. Because of the design of D60 would not AF with quite a number of existing Nikon lens...

Just my 2 cents...
