Hi... can anyone enlighten me on the difference between AT−X280AF PRO and AT-X287 AF PRO SV ??

Thanks! ;)

280 AF-PRO is 28-80mm f/2.8

287 AF-PRO SV is 28-70mm f/2.8 the SV stands for super value (IIRC). it is a reduced cost version of the superior 28-70 ATX-PRO f/2.6-2.8 whcih was based on an angeniux design.

however, both i would say are not as good as compared to the tamron 28-75mm f/2.8

if you're thinking of buying...i've seen the ATX-PRO f/2.6-2.8 version going for as low as $320 2nd hand before. the SV should be even less. the 28-80 is notorious for being quite soft at f/2.8 so i'd suggest u stay away from it. the tamron shd go for about $550 2nd hand.

i was also confused until see this webpage, it explains tokina 28-70(80) f/2.8 heriditry.

Thanks!

I used the 2.6 -2.8 version of the 28-70mm some years back with my (then) F100.
It is solidly made, and produced very good results shooting superfine Fuji slide film.
I sold it when I changed to digital. Does'nt go wide enough.
I would readily recommend it to anyone - if the range is ok by you.
